Okay all you Aussies!!

I'm curious...what exactly was Mel Gibson driving in "Mad Max?"

Being stuck here in the States, I don't recall seeing anything like that over here....

Was it a Ford product?

Cheers!!

The car is a mid 70's XB Ford Falcon built in OZ and fiited with a 351 Cleveland. When the movie was made the idea of being able to turn a super charger on and off was'nt possible but it apparently influenced someone at Toyota who incorporated the magnetic clutch for the blower on the MR2 and Corollas. The nosecone was called a Monza front and was also made in OZ. In the 2nd Max movie the front has been ripped off....

were they using a muncie "rockcrusher" tranny in that car? i can't remember which movie it was in (think the 2nd movie) that he stops from about 50MPH or so by throwing it into reverse! if you watch really closely you can see the tire tread spinning backwards. thats one tuff tranny

Muncies are for The Generals products, the GT Falcons got the 4 speed Toploaders, or the auto FMX trans....I can't remember what trans Max's Interceptor had...but your right it was tough and there was only 2 cars for the movie and one was blown up at the end off the first movie. The remaining car was sold and then bought back for the sequel and is now in a Cars of the Stars mueseum in England..
