Hey 4NIK8, you've been here long enough to know that we like to refrain from personal attacks. He asked for evidence, you gave it. Keep to the facts and all's well.

All I am trying to do is ascertain if it really has bang for your buck or not, afterall is this not why we are all into Datsuns and on this forum???
Is this not why the A series is probably the best bang for you buck engine available to place in your datsun??? I would just like evidence as to why rotaries are any good other than burning a hole in your back pocket....
At the moment I have not seen any figures as to why it would be a better choice....

All this guy asked was whether anyone knew if it had been done before or not. I myself have not seen nor heard of it done, and if you were to do it i think it would be awesome. good luck to you if you do attempt it.

p.s everyone, we've had this discussion about rotars before, its the most viewed thread on this site.

Want bang for your buck figures?
How about an engine that cost me around $5000 in total (thats including everything needed to run it computer etc.) and gave me 400 rwhp and sub 7 second 1/8th mile times. Would have been easy 10's on a good track.
And the motor lasted for four years as a daily driver with the piss thrashed out of it (died when I hit a tree).
Get your CA18 to give that sort of value for money and I will congratulate you.

Nuff said......

ps. not that I hate piston motors or anything just giving him the evidence he needs. don't hate me.....

Welcome Joe, i hope this thread hasn't put you off this site....

so you want to put a 20B tripple rotor into your 1200 Ute... man i think nit's an awesome idea. i think being able to put a 13B or 12A into a 1200 without too much trouble means that the big brother of these engines shouldn't be much harder.

as you can see there are a few Rotor Dats out there and some guys on this site who have done this type of conversion, my best advice is to ask them a few questions. (maybe a PM would cause less people to get their back up about these things, which is sad in a forum ) but anyway back on topic.....

i would also suggest talking to a local rotor workshop about what they suggest for a reliable running tripple rotor in a different car. i suggest staying with injection and maybe stock turbo.

the only big hurdle will be getting it engineered. because you would be looking at an engine size going from 1.4L to 4.XL i think? i'm not too sure on the size difference but a 13B equals 2.6L.

talk to your RTA and get some info on what would be needed to get it legal and then get to it. keep us interested people up to date....

good luck

Yes, a lot of rotary swaps have been done into 1200s. Not sure about any three-rotors though.

Here is a list of some the Rotary-Powered Datsuns: rotor power

On saturday i witnessed a mazda mx6 do a 7.1 second 1/4 mile at 195mph.... At a guess i'd say it would be putting out around 900HP........... not bad for 2 litres.
