perhaps you should try a fibreglassing place if you want a "tight" look.
u could put hinges up near the cabin an gas struts inside the tray to open it.
just food for thought

yea id love a fibber glass one but from what ive herd they cost about $1700 or something dont they? bit rich for me.

where would one locate a fibreglass cover for one of their mates? preferably with a datsun emblem embossed into it...

those guys doing the fiberglass charges $1900 for the lid &kit plus freight & packaging
Kit includes,2 wings, moulded back channel, stainless steel hinges, all stainless steel bolts nuts and washers.
brackets, struts, locks &keys, rubber kit ( seal strips ).
Lid is primed with black etch primer, ready for undercoat and paint.

they also make the tray floor cover but not sure how much they cost

mite b wot my ute needs wen i get a tub floor back in it. i just finished cuttin the old floor of it out and am gonna put 3mm sheet in the bottom, weld (no im not crazy) the fuel tank back up to it and then worry about toneau covers.

mine does to, but the mounts are metal. and u only need to weld the mounts back up to the tray.
