Hey Guys,
Can anyone tell me if wheels on an Toyota AE86 (levin) will fit onto a 1200 ?? I have the option of some 14x6x114.3 mags but i'm not sure if they will fit my 1200. (I'm concerned about the backspacing)

I also have the option of getting some 13x5.5x114.3 ae86 mags, but i'd rather go with the 14's.

Any input appreciated,
James

PS: I once fitted 14 inch Toyota Celica (cant remember what year, it was an old RWD model) wheels to my datto 1000, So i reckon the AE86 wheels should fit my 1200.

They should fit fine, just be aware that 14" tires are know to foul the front lip on the front wheel opening. Usually bending it out a bit works fine.

What size tyre should I use on a 14x6x114.3 size wheel to maintain the original outer circumference?

THanks!!:)

depends on the origional size but here goes,
if the origional was a 155r13 or a 165/75r13 use a 185/60r14

datto 7 is right but even with that tyre(60r) on the 14inch you will get rubbing at full lock.... best to get those stanza struts you are wanting to get, lower the front and pump a flare gaurds soonish, to match the mags

what happened to the superlite idea jempson?

I've found a some Watanabe wheels, either 14x6x114.3 or 14x5.5x114.3. If they fit I'd like to get them instead of the superlights.

If they don't i'll go with the superlights,

James.

I would be measuring the backspace before buying them. If you know what backspace your own rims have, and how much room there is around them you'll get a good idea if the Toyota ones will fit.

Or trial fit one before buying - doesn't take long to jack up the front and pull a wheel off...

But if you have the standard front end, and are planningon upgrading to Stanza struts, remember that this will change things significantly

You won't be able to find a 14" tyre with the same rolling diametre of the stock 12". But a 185/60 R14 is OK, and will actually make your speedo read corectly! The speedos are hopeless with the correct sized tyres...

Unfortunately the Watanabe wheels i want are in Adelaide (I'm in Sydney), So trial fitting isn't an option. I spoke to the seller today and asked him to measure the backspace for me.
I believe 1200's require around 16-21mm backspace?

Its pretty risky buying them interstate, (in case they don't fit) but they are about half the price of a set of Superlites.

16-21mm? you might be talking about offset?

backspace is simply from the mounting surface of the wheel to the innermost edge of the rim.

backspace on most of my 6" rims are around 112-115mm.Will fit under the gaurds at the front with Stanza struts and a little bit of gaurd work.
