I'm taking my new 120Y in for a rego inspection this week, and was wondering if the inspectors will pick out that its an a15 and not the a12 on the complience plate and knock it back because of that.

Is there a special process I'll have to go through to get it through?

Also there's been 3 or 4 things (emission controls) blanked off around the carbie, will I have to reconnect them all?

If it is just a standard renewal and the bloke isnt too fussy he probably wont notice,I cant remember the last time I had my engine number checked at a renewal. If it a blue slip they will check.

Take it to Queanbeyan and blueslip it, they dont have pits there. They even give NSW registration even if you have an ACT drivers licence residential address.

Sure they have pits in Queanbo, but mine dont have to go over the pits, just gotta have a normal inpection. Would there really be any point in getting NSW rego... I'd have to get new plates and all wouldnt I?

I heard about a trick...Im not sure if it will help or not. Apparantly you ask the old owner of the car to put your name on the rego as a part owner... Then the next day he takes his name off- suddenly the car is solely yours and there was no actuall exchange of vehicle. Apparantly you dont have to pay the tax on it either.

If all else fails, I do know of a few places that will probably pass you pretty easy- just pm me.

Oh ok I missread your post and was thinking you had to transfer rego from state to state ie; NSW to ACT, not just ownership.
I think you will find that a 120y with an A15 will only require the engine to be blueslipped to have the engine numbers legally registered without a need for engineer aproval, because of the 120y's weight.
As to Queanbeyan's pits I would love to know where they are and when they are used. I personally know of many cars, but one example is a 2002 Lexus written off in VIC requiring Blueslip. Was taken to Queanbeyan and registered without an inspection and given NSW rego. The car was sold a week later in NSW and no state registration transferal was needed. In NSW a blueslip on a 2002 model vehicle would raise suspicion but in Queanbeyan not even parts reciepts were required. Makes you wonder.

in QLD cars are inspected in random
but I noticed that if you go to a busy transport centre they wont even bother go out and check your car. My best advice is go there when its close to closing time so they will just rush and get over it quickly.
