I had the reverse gears replaced on my a12g\box.

This was done by a mechanic friend of mine who hasnt worked on these boxes before.

Now once the box was assembled, put back into the car, she rides clutch, noisy sound from g\box as well, however when clutch pressed in the noise goes away.
The cable has been adjusted fully, cant adjust further.
She takes all gears fines, but NOT RELEASING CLUTCH FULLY.
What have we assembled wrong on the box?
Does it have something to do with the box assembly{releaser bearing or fronk section} or is it the something else
PS, the clutch was perfectly fine before taking out the box and this cable clutch and not hydraulic.

Pretty much the same happening to me....
Ive got this clunk-clunk-clunk noise when the car is idling or moving but when clutch pressed goes away....
I suspected that it is the throw over bearing hitting something without the clutch in but soon thought not when i put a new pressure & clutch plate in the thing looks fine & aint hitting anything or non-warped....

When not releasing fully, do you mean not grabbing the gear or does the clutch kind of whine down like a big long ride-of-the-clutch but with the clutch not in??
This was also happeing on my A15 gearbox but with the new plates it seemed to go away...

Anyone care to elaborate?

I suspect the same symptom is haapeining for both of us, i reckon its internal.
Does it still run ok? like change fine?

Cheers
Dave

your first prob sounds like a thrust bearing. easy and cheap to replace, if you don't mind removing the gearbox again.

as for your second prob, check the clutch fork pivot (again, remove the box)isn't adjusted incorrectly and causing all sorts of overthrow / underthrow dramas. mine in the 180B looks as if it was adjusted too far out and has snapped clean off!

Yeh, pro-240c

I definately have to remove the box AGAIN.

I also think its the fork and releaser bearing.
I dont think that that fork is pushing inwards/outwards fully.

Does anyone have a Front view pic or anything similiar,as to how the spring thing on the fork needs to be sitting.

Hi Reeves

I am very sad for your part.
My gearbox was rebuild about 3 to 4 years ago.
I wish I could explain to you how much trouble I had.
The main thing that I can say about a gearbox is "if it does'nt give you trouble, leave it alone".

In your case ok. The gearbox was faulty.
My gearbox was removed about 5 to 6 times before it was as it is now.
A gearbox is the most frustating thing I have ever come across.
Even the slightest mm of wear on gears can make it whine it's nuts off. I think this is maybe happening in your case.
You have placed a different gearbox'es gear into your gearbox. The gear's wear do not match and now it is making strange noises.
That is what mine did and they removed it and put it back in using different gear sets all the times as mentioned until it stopped.
I HATE GEARBOXES!!!!

Mine is also having a small sound coming from it when the car is idling.
When I press the clutch in it slows down and stops making the sound.
Sort of a sound when the wheel is jacked up and you spin it around with your ear close to the wheel.
Release bearing it is NOT (in my case).
The clutch was replaced about 8 months ago. (Full clutch kit).
I will replace the gearbox with a 100% remanufactured one when this one dies.
No more struggling taking in and out.

Hope you get it right.
GOOD LUCK.
You are going to need it.

Howzit, GXMAN.

Yeh, you right, suprisingly, I thought I wouldnt have a problem with this box, but did, and If theres something I've learnt about the 1200s is that, the prices wanted for g\boxes in SA, either 2nd hand, reconditioned is ridiculous.
The a14 g\boxes are also bloody expensive, and I think because these spare\part centres knowing that these boxes are used on the 1400s which been used alot for commercial purposes.

So I had to buy just the reverse gears, 2 of them, which I found after a while for R300, 2nd hand, and still wasnt the 100% fit, and yeh, I had to get them a bit grinded of a few mm's.

I havnt yet driven it, but only in parking lot at my complex, to hear further noises from the box.
Howver I dont think that any forwrd gears would wind, cause only the reverse was shot and replaced thereafter,
Now, shes just not releasing clutch fully.

SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT, BEFORE I DECIDE TO SELL.

Hi Reeves

Yes, it is suppose to only whine in reverse.
If the gearbox was put together with care, then the other gears must be the same as they were before.

If the clutch does'nt disengage completely then it tells me that the assembly at the bellhousing is not correct.
(The part where the release bearing is put on and the arm the cable is attached to).
Did you get the workshop manual that I informed you about a while ago?

In there there is some pictures of the gearbox.
Even the A14 gearbox could be of some help.
Try and go somewhere to take a look at a A14 gearbox's release bearing part.
Make mental pictures and compair to your gearbox.
And yes, unfortunately you will have to take out the gearbox again.
Try your best to do it right before you put it back in again otherwise you may have to do it again.
It can really become frustrating. Ask me.

Goodluck

Thanks man.

My thoughts exactly.
I think that the spring where the releaser bearing and fronk sits, is off.
I wasnt at home the day my mach was fitting it on, and I also think that this could be the problem, probably fitted the wrong way in,{the spring}.

Another thing,
Yes I got the info,
unfortunately it doesnt want to open fully.
