Might sound absurd but how much could I deck the block disregarding the chain tension on an L18 if I used a 73.7mm l16 crank and 130.2mm rods?
Im interested in using a 73.7mm stroke L16 crank and 88 bore L16/l18 block.
So far 204.1mm is possible (as per ozdats engine utility) with 130.2mm l18 rods but could I go less if I had custom pistons made up?

1. Im trying for at least 1793cc using 88mm bores.
3. maximum 204.1mm deck height (like a14 and a15) less if desired
4. using a cleaned up ka24e head for a 12 valve crossflow that can make a streetable 160-180hp with 11 to 1 compression.

This is just a theorotical question(s)

This is the engine that would be "no pollution" setup that would offer greater displacement, lightweight (maybe 10kgs heavier than an a15 after decking and crank lightening) and a budget modern multivalve head that outflows any L head.

GOOD GOD MAN, i think scotty from star trek would have something to say about it but it would be cool to see it work. thats a lot to take of a block......

why don't you just put an L18 crank and rods in a 2.0mm oversize L16 block?

use 1.5mm flycut pistons and deck the block 1.5mm and fit a bigger chain tensioner.

deck the head about 1.0mm and get on with it...?

or source an L14 from Errol.

Well ...because....I dont want to use a non crossflow 2 valve head for starters.

1. I want the shortest L series block possible for lighter weight and easy fitment under 1k bonnet. with good bore stroke and rod angle ratios.

2. I have to use the 73.7mm stroke l16 crank to do this and it will help for revving up to 8k and to lower piston speed.

3. minimum oversize bore of 87mm to accomodate the ka24e 12v head with twin 36mm inlet valves.

Can I get factory nissan rods shorter than 130.2 mm for this setup?

Could I use A series rods on a modded L16 crank since I have to get custom pistons for the 12v pattern?

Since your injecting and not so worried about carb angles could you just tilt the engine to the side alittle for bonnet clearance ?
Can I sell you a bonnet ?
Or will the misalignment of the shifter cause a drama ?

Why not use L20b rods in your L16 that would give u a rods ratio of 1.980 which is excellent for high revving. If those rods are used u would have to get a 24mmCompression height pistons made by Ross or wiseco(sp)

To get the engine lower why not modify the sump to get alittle more clearance along with the X member??? Cut the Xmember flat and plate it with 3mm mild steel

No mate I wont be using injenction just old fashioned carbs well no so old fashioned.
Looking into alloy tubes inserted into the inlets welded up and angled to suit 46mm quad carbs from a motorbike (therefore no manifold as bike carbs are clamped on).
The exercise is just to see if lowering the deck height is possible using a 73.7mm crank stroke from the l16 and to clear the bonnet and yes the engine will be angled slightly to clear the quad inlets and getting a revvy non pollution crossflow multivalve engine that fits in the 1k engine bay like it was made for it with lower centre of gravity.
A bonnet for sale yes please if it sucks air out of the bay
Ive seen an l20b in one in the past and it was way to tall, heavy for handling (for a 1k anyway) and I just like short stroke big bore engines that can and should outdo a 4ag or ca18de with the twin 36mm inlet valves per pot.
The ozdat engine utility lets me lower the deck height to an a14/15 height using the l18 rods with l16 crank and 88mm bores to 1793cc capacity.
Also using 126mm rods I could lower the block height to 200mm and still get 1.71
However using a12 rods Ill get 1.65
and a deck height of 196 not too bad and maybe 5kgs lighter.

145mm rods wont help and sump or crossmember mod is a no go ;( transverse leaf springs sit 3mm from crossmember.

Can an l16 take an 88mm bore can it?

This is a quote from zac510`s ka24e hybrid L20B engine before he went overseas.
