Ok, in the two weeks ive got off for xmas im looking at dropping an L16 into my 1200 sedan. Ive got a whole stanza to use for parts, L16 with correct sump and reverse above first 5spd. Ive been through all of the information on here and theres lots of great discussion. Couple of questions though;
- will the water temp and oil pressure senders on the L16, work properly with the 1200 coupe dash i have?
- I have heard of a VW Rabbit aluminium radiator being a swap they do in america on there 510's, does anyone know what the hell a Rabbit is here in australia?
- Also will the speedo gear out of the orignal a-series 4spd fit into the stanza 5spd?
And thats all, theres still a million things that i need to do before this car will turn a wheel, but this is the hardest job, then I will be taking it apart again for paint prep
Cheers guys!

The water temp and the oil pressure senders both work on my 1200 coupe dash.
Not sure about the speedo gear though.
I used a radiator out of an 80's honda prelude, they are wide and low and thin and fit well in the front of the 1200 with the outlets on the correct side for the L Series. (It also allows you to run the factory fitted fan)
Have you got any pics of your car?
cheers
Bruce

Well thats less i have to worry about, and who really cares how fast your going, (you can just ask your beaten competition after the race). Ok and radiator sounds good, i just dont want to kill the radiator support like ive seen on some swaps. I will post some pics after i take some over christmas, I have some of my partners sedan on here, but my sedan has been hiding away for quite some time now.

Ah, will have to do some searching at u-pull-it, $44 for any radiator, may aswell get a good one, like heathbruce said, one with factory fans would be good too. Ive seen that most newer cars have a temp sensor in the rad too for the fans to work off.

the stanza 5spd's speedo gear will be fine. Mine was accurate with that box.

and as heathbruce said, the senders will work fine with the 1200 instruments/lights.

There must be heaps of radiators that will fit and do the job. I used a Volvo 240 radiator, and a thermo fan off an early commodore (VB-VH) in front of the radiator. Cut down VN V6 commodore top hose and a standard Datsun 1600 bottom hose with a little trimmed off each end.

Awesome stuff, xmas cheers for all those that helped, Heathbruce, cheers for the photos, they are fantastic, Pepper and L18-B110, ah and a couple for the rest too! I will try to get as many photos taken during the swap, as possible. This is panning out to be quite a simple swap, now thats confidence! Wonder if I will feel the same in a week or so, greasemonkeyed to the armpits...

Cheers guys

Well i paid a visit to U-pull-it today, found a great radiator, aluminium, triple core and nearly new, out of a saab. It is awesome quality, also has fans front and back, might have to remove the fans and just run two smaller fans on the grill side, but i will see when its all in the car, also the rad doesnt have a filler cap, its a closed unit and you fill through the overflow bottle, which is also aluminium. All hoses are the same size and on the correct sides too, plus attached is a small oil cooler, I wont use cooler for now, but it will come in handy later.
I also found another little beauty, i was looking at an early lancer that I had grabbed the brake master cyl and booster out of a week before, but i had forgot the check valve, and lucky i did forget it, because when i saw the car today i noticed it had some kind of turboed saturn motor? Anyway this engine/box has a hydraulic clutch but strangely the cable setup was still in the car, i followed the cable to a custom remote clutch m/c that is just perfect for the a-series cable, so i will have a unmolested firewall!

I haven't heard of that hydraulic clutch setup before. Let us know how it goes in.
