I would rip them off and put a rebuild kit thru it. Clean them right up and see what happens. I would never put on old calipers from a wrecker straight onto a car with out
making sure they work first. I bought my 4 spots from a wrecker and the looked clean but i still put a kit over them.

Theres probably an easier and cheaper way to get them working but i would make them new again..

Speaking of Calipers, has anyone on the list ever installed disk brakes onto a B10 (1000) ?
Since they don't have struts, I believe a caliper mount has to be fabricated to suit? I need to get this done so I can
get an engineers certificate.
Any input appreciated.

Hi,
You could use 1200 hubs/disks, they should bolt straight on. You'd have to make the caliper mounts yourself or have them
made. Hope this helps.

Yeah Linc you'll probably find that there is a bit of corrosion on the bore that is preventing the piston from returning. Pull both calipers off, remove the pistons and inspect the
bore. If it's not too bad then you can give them a clean with steel wool. If the bore is pitted it will chew your o-rings up and eventually it'll leak and fail. Always replace the
seals and o-rings after popping a piston.
PS Looked over a 2 door sedan, a coupe, and a four door sedan in a back yard today - full on Datsun twelvie experience!

no special tools, but a bit of know how helps cause if you screw up then you could be driving along and find you have no brakes. youve got to be real clean and you may need another
person with clean hands to open the boot to get the piston back in. have you checked the sliding parts on the calliper assembly itself as those sticking will cause the pads to not
release. but rekit them as soon as anyways. usually a kit will do both sides.

your caliper piston is seizing. Stop Master Brakes do a caliper seal kit for around $15 and a seal and piston kit for around $30. It's a cheap fix that will save repeated problems.
I have got to do girlock calipers to. Had to drive home on Sunday (40Km) with the pad smoking! OOOohhhh it's not good! Not the best for the rotors.

If the seals don't look distorted you may still get away with it as I have done so on some occasions with Fiats as the kits can be hard to get at times and expensive. When you clean it
all up there is probably a proper brake caliper cleaner but metho works just as well and is much cheaper. Why not have a look at the brakes out of a C20 Vanette they are huge (for an
old 4 cylinder)with the caliper and pad about the size of a Commodore or Camira. Although you may need 14 inch wheels as I don't know what the vans came out with.

Keep it all clean. The biggest trick if you like can be with removing the piston. If you don't bring it out square to the bore it can sometimes jam and be really hard to remove same goes
for getting it back in. To get it out you can twist it manually as you try and pull but this is not the best. Try pumping it out with it off the disk just go carefully and watch out for the
brake fluid on your paint. If you have a compresor you can blow it out also but if they are stuck they can take some pressure so watch your fingers when they are about to pop because they
can let fly if they are really stuck. Pumping with the pedal is best. When you put them back together lubricate the o ring with brake fluid or better yet rubber grease. Make sure you push
them in square or again they can jam and be hard to move. hold them in a vise and use the handle of a hammer in the middle of the piston. Once you've done it once it prety straight forward.
