after all was going so well, new gearbox, carb ect
ive run into a problem, car was running well for bout 2 weeks after all the work and the other day my mum borrowed the car and stuck premiun unleaded in the little datto i thought that should be fine when she told me. but today its been surging/bunny hopping
sounded like a fuel problem to me but im not sure im no mechanic, i was thinking maybe change the plugs
cause the old carb was running really rich for quite a while, ive got a stock a12 , 56a 5 speed doglegged gearbox, stock hitachi 306 carb,
has anyone had this problem it happens in all gears really need help on this one.

While you are giving at a proper tune-up, replace the fuel filter. These are cheap & easy to replace & partially blocked ones are often a cause of problems like yours.

The switch to a different fuel by itself will not cause the problems that you are having, but geting a gutfull of rubbish from the service station where the last load of fuel was bought could do it.

yes definatly change your filter and if it is because you got a crap load of fuel drain the tank and fill it from your normal servo also drop in a litre of metho as this will help with possible water problem in the fuel
When you take the filter off shake the fuel thats in it in your palm you will see how much crap there is
ade

today i was going to take my car down the servo to get a new fuel filter and thought id better not drive cause of the way its running, so i took the top hose of the fuel filter to see if i could take it down the servo, is fuel ment to run at a pretty high pressure out of the fuel filter, diddent stop running so i put the hose back on, is this normal for when the cars not running.

Normally, only if there is pressure in the tank.
try removing the fuel cap & do it again, preferebly with the front wheels up on ramps

you will get a bit of flow out of the hose but it should stop after about 5-10 seconds
