yes i know that, and if the term "spots" is misleading, we can use "units" instead

If you count them all up, including rallytwit (not on the list for some reason), we actually only need interest for eight more units.

actually, as dodge warned early on, we probably need another 10 on top of that seeing how "interested" means just that, "interested" and may drop off as soon as it's time to fork over the cash

also, out of the 41 "units" that have interest expressed in them, 6 of those are only "possibly" although 2 of the 6 are "interested" if we reach 40

We've only been at this for a few days but this already seems very likely to happen.

WHOA horsey!
"very likely" again depends on more factors than just a list of "interested" or "possibly interested" parties

see the thread on topgear's lsds, if you really wish to trace the ups and downs of a group buy

Sadly, Matt's right. Historicly, many people who get caught up in the enthusiasm suddenly develop short arms & long pockets when it come time to start handing over some cash & I stand by several of the things I said.

1. Things always cost more than you think. [sometimes, a lot more]
2. If you can bolt the 'complete' kit on your engine & start it up for under $5,000 Au then think of it as Xmas.
We need to factor in all of the extras in the final analasys. This could include intake manifold & exhaust fabrication, ignition system & even engine mount upgrades as I doubt that original 1200 rubbers will handle 150PS or more for very long. Clutch & even gearbox upgrades may well factor into this overall cost as well. Think about it.

It is my fervent hope that it will be less than that sum, but if it isn't, then I won't be geting a nasty shock.

Somebody said something about not being rare? I would think, after discounting the few unobtainable originals, that even 40 kits, across the globe with a population well over six billion souls, would have to be regarded at least as 'uncommon'

In fairness to everyone, please lets not delude ourselves into thinking we can buy a whole kit for beer money.
Oh yeah, I still think it's worth it.

EDIT

How will this head increase performance other than looks??? Are the ports any different in size???

The crossflow design is vastly superior to the stock counterflow design because gases have more momentum exiting the engine - they don't have to make a u-turn, so to speak before going out the exhaust port. That allows the combustion chamber to be filled faster. And yes, these ports obviously will be much better than stock if they can support over 150 naturally aspirated horsepower on a 1300cc engine.

ok, i just got back from lunch with my nissan tuning guru, and this is what he had to say re: project ay head:

the twin plug wires, he suggests are due to the inefficient plug location on the exhaust side of the head

recall if you will the z18, 20, 24 with the same problem, remedied by twin plugs

whereas on the toyota 2t heads, the spark plug is centered

in the ay black & white pics we've seen of the underside show only one plug electrode, so perhaps the extra plug was retrofitted due to insufficient detonation and is just not shown in the homologation pic

as far as modeling the head, aside from slicing the donor ay head up, the only good way to do that is via cad/cam model

at that point, and if this wasn't about homologation rules, you'd want to employ the services of a cylinder head designer to build a better head since you're starting from scratch

in other words, this ay replica will inherit the original ay's deficits

if the objective is not to make the best head, but what's allowed by a racing organization, it's certainly worth pursuing

i'm still interested, but only as an observer

unless some new revelation changes my mind, the only thing that would make me consider changing my gx head is if somebody got the ga16de head to work on a a-series block
