I have an A14 in a KB10 and all electrics like points, plugs, leads, dizzy cap all replaced, only the condensor is still the very old one from the 1000 motor. I recall it wasny replaced last time for some reason.

What are the symptoms if this part is shagged?

also could the fuel pump be the cause of the problem im having?

I have been through the carb, adjusted float level and fully tightened everything, checked for vacuum leaks already too.

its being hard to get started and problems idling at anything under 1500rpm especially when cold. sometimes backfires and dies

It does sound like an air fuel ratio issue.

If the problem is only occuring on cold start up and low RPM then I on't think your fuel pump is an issue as that would be aconstant problem,

If its backfiring then is would suggest that the car is over fueling as opposed to starving for it.

The only other thing I could suggest is to check the timing, if you don't have a timing light just give the dizzy a little twist and i mean little, to see if that could be the culprit, only a degree or 2 out can cause little issues like these.

fixed the bastard, dizzy moves out a little somehow and the points almost close, least i think that was the culprit. problem is it goes like a rocket with some advance but pings bad, maybe need to run premium.

Run premium might not help that much, a bigger fule pump would help tho.

What Carb do you have on it? if it is stock or a 32/36 weber, the stock pump will be fine. if it's pinging, retard the timing a little and see how you go. also check you have the vacuum advance hooked up.

and premium will help as the higher octane will help it burn better.

stock fuel pump is enough for twin 40s on a worked a12...so a bigger one wont be needed

I do retard the timing to stop the pinging, but its definitely not its best tune like that.

the head is off a 120y, wouldnt have thought that would raise the comp so much to cause the pinging. anyway i will run premium next tank and see.
