A15 clutch problems

Hi all,
i have been doing some work on a friends Datsun B310 that has been fitted with an A15 engine and a 60 series 5-speed dogleg gearbox. The problem is that the clutch release bearing is not reaching the pressure plate until the last couple of mm of movement. The bearing itself is correct, as is the clutch. All i can think of is that the mechanic who worked on the car before me fitted the wrong flywheel.
IDEAS?!

Did you bleed the clutch and make sure the push rods are adjusted properly?? seems more likely, there aren't that many flywheels that fit, and it looks like the right one.

Thinking back on my clutch, it's important to get that stuff right, otherwise its a pain.

The car has a cable operated clutch. The engine and box are out of the car at the moment. I have taken some measurements and the bearing is physically not able to reach the pressure plate with the current setup.

you're in one of those countries...

Sure it's the right throwout bearing and holder?

Is it getting hung up on the output shaft or something?

Maybe it's the wrong pressure plate, but I'd have thought they'd be the same height if they fit on the flywheel.

Intersting. Got any part #'s we can look up?

Haha, yeah i'm in New Zealand.
A mate of mine works for a bearing company and assures me it is correct (NSK #TK40-4A for the record).
The clutch is an Exedy NSC539.
The bearing carrier moves freely on the input shaft.
I've trawled through some previous discussions and there seems to be two sizes of bearing carrier. Mine's about 44mm in length.

Yes, the bearings are all the same. But not the bearing carriers (bearing sleeve).

A12 vs A14/A15 uses a longer carrier.

A longer bearing carrier could do the trick but it would still leave the release lever with a considerable amount of free movement before the bearing reaches the pressure plate.
How hard are the A12 bearing carriers to find?

i believe the difference in carries is whats holding u up. i made up one for my 60 series a few years ago and from memory i moved the bearing shoulder forward about 5mm. i seperated my box and engine today so will get a propper measurement for u tomorrow if u like. The diference in lengths is between clutch fork lugs and thrust bearing carrier.
