Yeh your just about reaching Diesel prices! There is a place on the way to work, a privately owned servo, that is always between $141.9 and $145 for deisel (daily is a 'cruiser). Everywhere else is up to $153!

Whats Diesel like in the US? I know its not 1/2 bad in the EU because of how many Diesels are on the road over there.

OK, in order to get my head around this, since we are using three different volumetric standards I'll see if I can get it straight

1 Litre = 1 litre [obviously]
1 US Gallon = 3.7854 litres.
1 Imp. Gallon =4.54609 Litres.

$1 US = $1 US [again obviously]
$1 US = $1.068 Aus.
$1 Aus = $0.935 US
1 Euro = $1.52 US
$1 US = 0.685 Euro

Unfortunately we also get paid in Rands, so it helps nothing that fuel is cheap when the cost is converted to $ of any kind. Diesel is never much more than 5-10 cents(ZA) less/more than petrol so it doesn't really matter which you buy. Diesels just tend to be more fuel effecient than petrol, which is why people tend to go for them lately...

The other day I drove in Johannesburg, and there was a 1400 bakkie infront of me, it said "Diesel Power" on the back. When we pulled away from a traffic light, it took of with a fair amount of speed and kept accelerating quite well, it spew black clouds as it went. I have been wondering, these 1.9TDi VW engines put out a fair amount of grunt, and they are very fuel effecient. What would happen if one built one of those into a 1200...just for the hell of it...

Well it wouldnt spit huge clouds of black smoke, thats for sure! Only old worn out diesels do that. Yeh Diesels are about 1/3 more fuel efficiant then a petrol. I get about $60/45L a week out of my HJ60 Landcruiser(4L N/A Diesel) doing 250km in peak hour! And thats a heavy bus to haul around with big wide muddies too!

I recon a TD datto would be great! Buckloads of torque at least!

Diesel tends to be about the price of mid grade petrol these days, until the last few years diesel was always a bit more than petrol.

I live in north-west Iowa(USA) and(per Gallon) Diesel(standard grade) is $3.50, Reg Unleaded is $3.15, 10% Ethenal is $3.10.

Took nearly $30 to top off my B210 yesterday.

hey all, i recently purchased a 2007 320d BMW thinking that yeah diesel would be sweet and not rise any more, was i wrong. It is still more economical and i get about 800km out of a tank but still costs me near 80bucks to fill up. Also it is cheeper to service not that its just a beeema and i paod a #### load for it but with most diesels it is much cheeper to service... the only downside is that the thing weights a lot and it leaves the sooty #### at the bumper and it does blow a bit of smoke when ya accelerate... but apart from that if it wasnt a turbo diesel i dont think that it would be goin anywhere quickly and i must admit it does have good low down power cuz it has a 6spd auto. but hardly gets to 6th unless goin over 110km. I have the datto 1200 ute and that is sweet on fuel unless i thrash the tits out of that and it then it decides to drink the fuel like me in a pub....

We americans have it good... still cheaper than most of the world. Gasoline here is cheaper than in Canada. Almost half of what Europe pays. Less expensive than Australia. It has gone up 10% in the last month, but it's still relatively cheap. Remember in the 1970s gas was 10 times less expensive than today, but so were wages. So no real change except inflation.

Which may partially explain why we don't have very many economy cars here. No car sold here for 2008 returns as good economy as a 1978 B210... except for the Prius hybrid. In Europe there are many cars that beat that old record, but they aren't sold here. Even the Smart Car that finally went on sale this month doesn't touch it. They gave us the biggest Smart with the largest gasoline engine...

Yeah,Yeah,we all know it's all getting a bit out of hand world wide,but honestly,i' more interested in how much tax is collected per measure of fuel in other contries.Are you all getting sore rectums or is it just us layback gullable aussies.
