Sorry guys, just venting my frustration. About an hour ago I had an unmarked copper run up the back of my 1200 ute at the lights. So angry. AAAAAARRRRGGGHH.

I'm still waiting to find out what will happen. I had to stand around for about an hour while all these other cops came and took pics and statments. What a cock-up

all i can think of metallica and Whiplash!

Basically they should have advised you that you have been involved in a vehicular incident with an offical police vehicle and a further disclaimer, then provided you all the details for insurance, rank etc and drivers details as per normal. usually they do a good job but hope you have your own insurance with shannons, they will do it a lot quicker and better than vic police insurance.

There's no way they can pass the blame if they rear ended you - it's an automatic 85 / 15 split.

Bad luck with the ute. I hope all the insurance stuff turns out ok!

I was rear ended a while ago in my wife's brand new car, and the other driver squeezed past me (I was in a turn left any time lane) and drove off - I got their plate and a real good look at the car, and reported it immediately to the cops. I am presuming it must have been a 'person of interest' to them (informant / mobster / under cover cop?), because they won't give us any information about the accident investigation, the initial cop who we reported it to got a real worried look on her face when she brought the vehicle up on the computer and said that she needed to speak to her superior. After speaking to her superior she wouldn't say anything else about it and we have had no information since.

A friend of ours who is a cop had a look at the file while at work and said that there's a problem with it, the detectives are looking into it and she can't tell us anything else. Nearly a year has now passed, so I presume that nothing is going to happen.

We obviously had insurance, so it's not that big a deal, except that we have lost our no claim bonus and are $500 out of pocket (for an accident that would have cost us nothing if the cops had 'found' the guy who hit us).

They will sort you out mate. My mate got T boned by a rookie who claimed to be in pursuit. After 2 hours of talking and the crown Sargent showing up they fessed up that they werent in pursuit and never had there lights on. Within 3 days he got a check from GIO for $4000. He was lucky as they hit the drivers side right on the door pillar. Also pretty good dough for an old XD Falcon in the 80's.

Clearly you are in the wrong there Pete. If you go to the back of the ute and have a look you will find that the tail lights are broken. Now how was the innocent policeman supposed to see that you had brake lights working if they are clearly broken???

Yeah taillights ARE broken... NOW :( I've got to go in tomorrow and make a statement again. Things may get tricky as I have no insurance so it may take a while to get paid, although the cop admitted liability i'm sure the wheels turn very slowly on these matters.
I told the officer it's a sad day when a 24 year old datsun can stop faster than a current model pursuit vehicle.
Funny thing is that the commodore came off 2nd best
