PROJECT VEHICLE: Datsun 720 King Cab

QUESTION 1:
Has anyone dropped a CA18DET engine in there before?

QUESTION 2: Does it fit on the existing engine mounts or does it need new engine mounts and how much work will it be?

QUESTION 3:
Are parts easy to come by at he wreckers or anywhere else?

Thanks!

Lio

go the SR20det, and most things are custom made, eg: x-member, box member, brakes, etc etc
do your home work first, but a good candidate

Try the Datsun truck specialists at http://forum.ratsun.net, they know a lot about 720s.

they take a v6 easy enough and easy to have licenced, u want torque in a ute like that. 300ZX motor good choice.

Consider the dunnydore v6 as well for the conversion. Heaps of them lying around now in wreckers are go fast bits are common too. Thro in the T400 auto and you would have a mean machine.

My first car was dads diesel 720. Single cab trayback 4wd. Slow as all hell, blew diesel smoke like a steam train constantly, wouldnt die, ran it out of oil at least twice and sized it. Dad just waited till it cooled down, put in some oil and started it again.

I could get to Wedge Island and back again on one tank of fuel, about 400km round trip. That included two days of beach driving and sand dunes. Sensational fuel economy, for such a large ute.

Sadly it went to the wreckers when two undercover coppers on trail bikes pulled dad over on the way up red hill in Perth. We almost suffocated them
