on the dipstick or in rocker cover or both

most likely is head gasket

have seen small amounts of white from condensation

drop the oil out and see how much water

if a chunk of gasket breaks loose it could turn bad quite quickly

Yes. A "blown head gasket" usually happens all at once.

To prevent if from re-occurring:
* Clean block face and head face thoroughly, and chase off all oil residue
* Clean head bolt holes thoroughly
* Check head and block faces for straightness
* Use a quality gasket (e.g. Japan-made)
* Tighten in three stages, in the spiral pattern, with a torque wrench
* If the gasket is not the no-torque kind, be sure to re-torque 100 miles after installing. And then re-torque yearly.

are you saying this happened after building the motor 2 days ago?

a12 and a12gx head gaskets are same, it is possible to put them in upside down though

if this happened two days after engine build there was obviously a problem during assembely

possibly block surface or head surface is not flat also

A12 engine and A12 single-carb engine in Datsun B210 GX use the same gasket.

If you wish to gain more compression, you may use the A12 GX gasket, which is thinner.

What brand is the gasket you are looking at? They are about $20 USD here normal price.

An original-equipment Nissan head gasket for A12 engine will typically last 10 years or more. Mine is 35+ years old, still going strong.

How long will cheap one remain? You tell us, how long did it last?

hi sumith
remember when u said u were losing water about a week ago i asked if u had any "cream' on the dipstick. the water would have been getting into the oil even then.
This happens easily on these engines if u use water instead of good quality coolant, corrosion around water channels. u will probably find corrosion around the water channels and this needing welding or even a new head, just a gasket wont last.
