have had this mad idea for a while just wondering if it will work. Thinking of using a suzki jeep's (the small ones with the 1000cc engines) gearbox and front drivetrain parts. any comments or other ideas welcome

This bloke has modified a vitara chassis to suit a 1200 body.
Is that Suzuki? Bigger than the Rocky I think.

those two 1200s look awsome. Wonder how they go?

You would have to ditch the a12 for something with a bit more go. The Suzuki V6 or something i reckon would be the go.

4cyclinders dont have the torque to cope with 4wd stuff, and turbos make it worse by giving your the power too high up the rev range.

Very cool though...

I remember the red one going up for sale a couple of times. It has a standard A12 in it and resides in Tasmania.

I dont see a problem if the gearing is oppropriate. Our family has had its fair share of 4WD's over to years from ford F150's, landcruisers, hilux's, navaras etc.. But I and most of the rest of the family still get a smile on our face when we talk about our old 1976 Suzuki LJ50. This 4WD is just an amazing perfromer for what it is. Especially since its only powered by a 539cc 2-stroke 3 cylinder engine producing ~ 33HP.

We still have the vehicle as its in the hands of my brothers family these days. Sure they are not the fastest 4WD out there, but the thing sure can climb.

Here is a couple of images I lifted of the web of one.
