Has anyone ever put a CA2.0 in a 1200?How hard is it and does it
make much power?

Hey everyone! I just got my 1200 running again last night!!! It's been down for about 4 weeks due to a cracked piston, no one could figure out exactly how it happened other than a
defective piston, which makes sense at only $20 a pop. Anyway, compression is great now ranging from 135-137 psi in all four and it runs like a champ once again! Thank God I have a
car to drive, I was getting tired of my mountain bike! I'll be at the car show tomorrow morning in Roundrock, see ya later!

Hi there looking at the engine ( I have one in the workshop now) it would fit as easy as the CA18det did not too much work they do not have much power though with 8 valve SOHC
8 plugs. Capacity is 1972cc with max power 83 kW @ 5200 rpm and torque 168nm at 2600

The CA18-DE would be a better choice with 1809cc EFI DOHC 16v 4cyl 97KW @ 6400RPM 162Nm @ 5200RPM
Cheers Andrew

Dunno where you got a power figure lower for the Turbo version of the
same engine....

The figures I'm aware of are about 100kw for the DE and 130kw for the
DET....

Even the SOHC E15T (Pulsar/Exa turbo) put out 86kw....

Ahhh... reading backwards through the thread finds my answer. The figures he sprouted were for the CA20E motor, but he put down CA18DET. Correct for CA20E at about 83kw. A big jump
approximately twice the power of your stock A12 engine. To suggest twice the power isn't worth the effort is almost a bit obscene. Also with the CA20E motor, they are not highly tuned
compared to later CA18DE engines (peak power at 5200 rpm, so cam improvements, high comp pistons etc can easily boost this figure way up...

In Oz, CA20's were fitted to Series III Bluebirds and Pintara's (Cheap Aussie made Nissan's). There's a carby version with 8 plugs and electronic ignition, or an EFI version. The carby is
slightly less powerful.

As the Chassis rails spacing for the A12 series cars and the L16/18/20 cars were the same, although crossmembers were different (the series 3 bluebird ran a CA20, but effectively was the same
car as the L20 engined series 2), these engines are an easy swap. Also the engines are very compact and light compared to later DOHC units - only a couple of inches difference in height to
the A series and smaller than an L series. If you're too lazy to wire up fuel injection a carby CA20 is probably as good as you can get.....

A very good engine swap option - previous experience here. Very grunty, it just needs a little more top end....
