it seems every now and then, particularly now after ive just used the google search that the forum displays threads weirdly

doesnt show avatars or the borders around posts or anything, makes it rather hard to read stuff
logged out and it displayed normal, then logged back in and it displayed weird again. also closed the browser and opened a new one but no change

and now its changed back again

I've never noticed that.

Try alternative selections on your 'view mode', little scroll down tab at the top of page.

'Flat' seems to be the one people prefer.

...and why is it that I can't stay logged on to this site? Or is it the site set-up/does everyone have same issue?

Check the clock on you computer (click the clock in the bottom right).

If the dates are out of whack it won't let you log in. Or it will for a short while then won't some other times. Try that?

its happened to me a couple of times nick, the 'view mode' seems to change by itself..

just change it to 'flat' and you'll be back in business!

It happens when the site is bogged down. Just come back later and everything will be fine.

ah cool, never played around with veiw mode before. so it explains why i didnt think of it

Maybe I didn't explain properly: is it possible to be automatically/already logged in whenever visiting this site? Many sites seem to have this convenient feature but i haven't worked out how to do so on 1200.com. (I think I used to be able to before the major site upgrade a year or so back)
