Hey Chris, or anyone, do you know if the standard computer on the CA18det should have constant power from the battery? My battery is always going flat, and I think there
may be a problem.

thanks,

justin.

Yes it should. The computer needs to keep it, and counts the number of starts the car has had also, it uses this to keep memory of old errors. Also it does some auto-tuning and this
is lost when battery is lost. So your car will start roughly everytime if you remove power from the computer when the engine is stopped If you wire it up to remove power at the key
'off' position. It must autotune/learn the required advance/fuel map depending on fuel quality.

I guess I'll just have to drive it lots to keep the battery charged
up!
How's your engine rebuild coming along?

It's done, I've remade the engine mounts much neater. Done the gearbox mounts and tunnel mods for the std CA18DET gearbox, I'm now modifying the heater hose outlets and remaking a
radiator crossover pipe using mandrel bent steel tube.
All the radiator and intercooler mounting is complete. All fits behind standard front panels.
Haven't bought the turbo or aftermarket computer. I might end up going haltec, because the Autronic is too expensive, and I'm finding some good people who tune haltec (my brothers
next door neighbour). My brake and clutch firewall mountings are sorted. Need to do the tubing to the calipers still. The body mods are almost complete though, There's so many holes
to fill and holes to make, so I keep my paint looking good in the engine bay. My wiring will depend on computer used, so I'll leave that for now.

Chris

I'd be interested to know what you used for your Brake and clutch master cylinders and how much modifying
you had to do?

cheers

Bruce,

LA / LB Lancer Booster and mounting brackets, 180B Brake Master Cylinder and
splitter.

Toyota Sprinter(AE86) Master Cylinder, modified the pedal box / clutch pedal to
fit.

I'll take a photo so you can see the level of mods. All the parts are still out of
the car.

I used an LB Lancer booster and cylinder, but I had to shorten the booster mounting bracket for it to fit before the strut tower. Maybe the LA lancer has a shorter one? In any case
you will need a short clutch master cylinder to fit behind the booster.
I used a late model (1985) Toyota Corolla clutch cylinder and CA18det slave.

The pedals lined up fairly well and I used all the existing mounting brackets for them.

Hope this helps

LA and LB are identical. I think the LA ones are a better quality pressing. But thar are the same. I dented my strut tower in a little in order for the booster to fit. If done
neatly, it looks ok.
It also allowed my clutch cylinder to tuck in behind the booster cylinder.

I'm using the CA18DET slave also.
