Are there any 510 (1600) guys (or gals) out there with experience in V8 swaps. I bought a 510 wagon that I want to make into a tow vehicle and was considering a Fjord engine. If you don't want to pollute the 1200 site with this kind of talk, my e-mail is dimlight65@aol.com. Have a day. Tim

Put in a VG30. Turbo or not it will work ok.. A VQ45 would be nice :) but I don't think it would fit. Chris.

The 215 cubic inch aluminum V8 came in the 1961-63 Buick Specials and the Oldsmobile F-85 Cutlass. The Truimph TR-8 had it also. It is very low in HP as all of the motors of that time period had. I have access to four of those motors but I wouldn't want one in my 1200. I have thought about putting one in but I just don't want one. Parts are very expensive because they didn't make very many of them. We put a 215 in a Truimph Spitfire in the 60's but stock 327 cars would wipe it out. And Jesse, the Dodge motors are pretty heavy for the 1200, it would need a lot of reinforcement or the motor would twist the mounts and chassis.

I made a hitch for my first 1200 sedan that worked real well. I pulled a Lancia Beta from Orlando Florida to Tennessee and then on to Washington DC. I was lucky that I decided to come by Tennessee because the transmission went out just as I got here and luckily, I had a spare tranny. That was a 1150 mile trip. 1200 trannys ae not made strong enough for towing very heavy loads and 1200 Datsuns are not made strong enough for towing very heavy loads. I hit a water puddle and lost it and ran off the interstate. My rear tires were pretty slick though. I had to have help getting the car back on the interstate. Luckily, no cops came by. Mareo

On the news last night, it said that over 20,000 people were evacuated from their homes because of teh fires near Sidney. It showed the smoke from a satellite traveling over the Tasman Sea. That must be one of the largest fires ever on the earth in historical times. I feel for you guys and the people that are affected by the fires. Mareo

I guess I need to 'splain some more of my plan. I also have a Datsun 620 truck that I was planning to use the frame out of. Basically, what I would have is a V8 powered 620 truck with a 510 wagon unibody on top. That way I'll have the towing and load capacity of the truck and the look of the wagon. As for what I'm towing, it will mostly be dead 1200s in need of rescue.

Oops, I forgot to thank you all for the advice. I'd be willing to use a Mopar engine but my personal prefernce is Ford. The Rover alloy engine is cool but availability and output potential worries me. I guess it will come down to whatever engine falls into my lap first. Mareo, I'd never put anything but a Datsun engine in a 1200. I'm a purist when it comes to them (or is it those?). This project is a 510 wagon.
