Hi guys,

i have an a15 with a stanza 5 speed bolted up to the back of it,
whacked it in today went to bolt up the tailshaft and its 40mm too short....
had a thought of makeing a spacer at the back where the tailshaft connects to the diff using longer bolts made of a harder steel so they dont brake but was wondering if anyone else knows what i can do? tailshaft out of a stanza or any other datsun? really could use some advice as i dont want to go down the road of getting someone to make a tailshaft up for me,

Dion :)

stanza 5 speed on the back of an a15? how? is it a 63a and you swapped the bell housing bits?

also what tailshaft did you use? and what diff do you have?

i have a h150 and an auto 120y tail shaft should have fit but need slight shortening to fit, i have a gap to, not as bad as yours.

getting the tailshaft lengthened and balanced is pretty cheap and at least its done properly... tailshaft is the last thing u want to come lose and come off whilst driving

That might be because the Stanza diff is bigger and 40mm longer.

If you are using the Stanza tailshaft, try the B210 automatic tailshaft instead.

My first question would have to be. Are you sure its a stanza five speed ? Not doubting you just that they take a lot to fit to an A series engine coming from a L series engine. Secondly What tailshaft are you trying to fit ? If its the original manual one from the 120y then it aint a stanza five speed.

yeah definately is a stanza 5 speed, on the side of the bellhousing is 60, but besides that, the guy i bought the engine off posted this up :

http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=50870

the gears work like this :

R 2 4

1 3 5 so an auto 120y tailshaft would fit nicely? i guess ill go measure it and go find one at the wreckers

60 series were a series not l series. L series were 63 not 60 series.

So 60 series did have a dog leg shift which Is what you have- I have a 63a dogleg l speed but I'm l series infront of it.

I doubt it's an l series as it would still say 63 not 60 on the gear box. Is it cable or hydraulic clutch paddle Arm

Yes, 60-series 5-speeds came out of Sunny B310. The first ones were a dogleg pattern.

Again what tailshaft are you trying to use ? As a standard manual 120y tailshaft to suit your diff either H150 or BW68 should fit. To tell what diff you have a BW68 has an inspection plate on the back with a number of bolts in it H150 just has the oil filler bolt visible on the back.
