I am in the process of building up a Sunny as autocross/rally car, engine is a fully worked a15 with webers etc, expect it to put out >170hp, could someone advise me on clutch options.
The engine will drive thru a 60 "a"series box, logic tells me a standard clutch/pp set up will not last too long.
I have heard that an EXA Turbo clutch/pp setup will fit the "a" series setup, is this fact or myth, if the latter does anyone have suggestions for a set up that will handle what is going to be dished out.
All suggestions most welcome.
Cheers, Sam

See Clutch

The clutch disk will give different "feel", but the main thing to prevent slipping is the Clutch Cover.

Depending on how much torque you will be making, choose the cover accordingly. The HP does not matter, the torque does.

* B210 A12: 616 pounds
* B310 14/A15: 739-849 pounds
* 30210-H5220 420KG (926 lbs) NISMO HIGH-PERFORMANCE PRESSURE PLATE for A12, A12A
* 30210-A1200 550KG (1213 lbs) NISMO HIGH-PERFORMANCE PRESSURE PLATE for A14, A15

1 Get your A-series flywheel re-machined to take a 200mm L-Series pressure plate
2 Use a stock Nissan Pulsar EXA 18-tooth 200mm disc for E15ET

beaufort your 60series will die quickly you may want to find an alternative, i went through 5 x 4-speed 60's (in about a year) when i put a warm a15 w/ twins in my coupe and it was used as a daily driver only.

dd thx for the info on machining flywheel, ive had to pay more for a 'custom' clutch for my a15 + 63a, do u think machining the flywheel will allow me to use other L series clutch's eg more available in auto stores ?

Machining your A-series flwywheel to take a 200mm clutch will increase your choices. But there aren't all that many L-series 200mm clutches. Z-cars used a 240mm clutch. Still you will have just as many choices of clutch covers for the 200mm as for the A.

For clutch discs, Nismo sells three types
* A heavy-duty standard. I like a standard disc, they drive normally
* full-disc ceramic disc
* tri-lobe ceramic (bronze button) disc. On/off operation.

Or just get the stock EXA turbo 200mm disc. It's already heavy-duty.

dd, thank you for the info on the 200mm L series pp and EXA clutch, the 200mm L series, is that off a 1600, 180b or 200b or they all the same.

Cheers, Sam

Originally they were all slightly different spec, but one clutch fits all of those.

There are L-series 4-cylinders with 180mm clutch or 225mm clutch, so make sure to get a 200mm cover.

I run a H/D Ld20 pressure plate and friction plate. (I have a 63a box) BUt When I used a 60A five speed, I used the same P/Plate, with an sr20 primera friction plate.

180B pressure plate <-8"
Gemini Disc <-8" - a-series spline count and size

Gearbox becomes the new weak link. . .

One catch, if you have lightened your flywheel there may not be enough material to bolt the 8" pressure plate to.

If you have a spare flywheel or 2 you can try putting a step in it (raise the disc mating surface) to increase clamping force. Try this with the 7 1/4" clutch first, you might be lucky.

What is the gearbox swapping about?

The 180B has a 200mm clutch disc, which is a bit less than 8". And you can use stock Nissan clutch disc with that as listed above, although it's good to know the Isuzu Gemini clutch is the same size.

Good to know that will fit on an A-series flywheel. The stock clutch for the A-series 63a gearbox was a 180mm clutch from the L14. Of course bigger will handle more torque.

What size is that pressure plate?
