timing setting for a A15

Just wondering what is the timing degree for the A15 i cant seem to find it any were

just a stock a15? i run mine at 12 degrees at idle (roughly 900 rpm)

its far from stock but that should be fine on a stock motor :D

12 degrees means you *may* be exceeding safe total timing at high RPM (over 4200 RPM). One A15 distributor can be safe at 12 degrees, while another can ruin the engine (it all depends on the factory tolerance). Unfortunately blueprinting of distributors was not done at the factory, unlike the superb job of engine balancing which Aichi did.

A15 spec for initial timing is 5 degrees to 10 degrees depending on the exact engine. The total timing is the same for all -- the initial timing depends on how much total mechanical advance is built into the distributor.

I'd suggest trying 10 degrees advance. If it pings, you can retard it, if it doesn't, then try 12 degrees. If it makes no difference to performance, then knock it back to 10 degrees, if it makes it better, then leave it at that. I've never used more than 12 degrees on a motor. Other people have probably used more advance, but that'd be on really high compression motors that need to have the combustion kicked off earlier to get a complete burn. Modern fuels aren't good enough to take too much advance.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

yea that would explain a few things ,my a15 has 12:1 and has a modded dizzy that wont allow too much advance ,forgot what it advances too ,forgot about how far the stock dizzy will advance :S sorry fellas haha!

There is also this option for Highly modded carburetted engines,At one point in the past Haltech had an Igntion only system called the IG4 these days Ignition only systems are few and far between but important for highly modified carburetted engines,This is one of the best and made in Sydney.

Better option than what some do which is use only the ignition side of an aftermarket Engine Fuel and Ignition Management system.
