Hey there I was just wondering what people think about a 12a rotary in a 1000? I know that 13b is not road legal (atleast in qld as far as I know) because it is apparently rated at 2.4 litres. Does anyone know what the 12a is rated at? And if it is legal in qld? That is that it would have to be under 1.9 litres N/A.

Curious is all.

I thought a 12a would be rated at 2.4 Lt and a 13b would be 2.6Lt? Not sure though.

Bummer probably. Would love to maybe put one of these in my vb10 but mmmm maybe not. Anyone got a site or anything they've seen to clarify?

Yep definately clarify that, I'm in WA and not 100% sure. A rotary would be awesome though.

In the Engine Capacity part (2.13) Just realised it says 2.6 for 13b, so yes you were right Levey thanks!

AND NOOOOOOO can't put a 12a in my 1000. Oh well a15 it is.

If you scroll down a bit there is all the rotary's capacities. I guess a 10a is legal but there aren't any in aus are there?

A15's pull pretty hard with a bit of work. stock A15 vs A12 will still put a smile on your face.

Agree with levey, the additional torque is great. If the 1000 came out factory with the A15 I think there would have been an enormous cult following.

To rebuild a rotary these days is not cheap and never was but these days parts have gone up more than 3 fold so I was forced to get rid of my old Mazda obsession in its entirety.

If the 1000 came out with an A13 from factory SSS or GX version we wouldnt be able to afford them as easily as we can these days. They would be sought after like crazy due to their giant killing history. With an A15 they would be priced as much as a Z.

The Mazda head dude is finalising the front cover for a group buy along with his custom head gasket so anyone will be able to use the B series heads on an A series. Heaps of cheap OBX gear, other Miata/mx5 3rd party gear and have a killer A series without the rebuilds required from a pushrod headed A series. No sump mods, just a few block and head mods that most can do with little effort. There are a couple of 1.6 Mx5 getting 160hp atw with cams, valve springs, webers, pipes and higher comp from shaved head stock bottom end. Turbo was factory and great aftermarket support there too to equal a CA16det.

So instead of a Mazda 13B you can have a Datzda AB16 :)
