Hi guys.
Slowly putting together some bits for a stroked and bored A14 and want a bit of info on running E85 in an A series.
Does any one run it in their vehicle?
Is there much of an increase in power ?
Any pros or cons ?
This motor will be used for serious club stuff
Thanks
Bob

I run e85 in a high comp A15 on Weber's. The jetting is substantially larger to maintain the correct AF ratio. The mains are from memory 170 to 175. You will also need to change the emulsion tubes to F7's [typical alcohol use tube] to allow enough supply to the jet. The tubes are thinner to allow higher volume of fuel in the well. It took two days of solid dyno time to get it right for me with a very competent operator. He did near to over 40 power runs. Overall outcome was an improvement in peak power and relatively flat torque curve. 14 deg static with adv limited to 28. Made more torque with longer ram tubes at a slight expense of peak HP.

Send me a PM Bob and I can send through the jet, choke and Aux vent sizes

A15 on e85 power run

Thanks Benny for the offer of info. Will pm you shortly. What size webers did you end up with ?
Did the E85 make a significant increase to power over pump fuel?

40DCOE-2's same as was fitted to the Lotus Cortinas. The -2's have a more favorable progression holes placement, which makes for better transition from idle cct. Power delivery is awesome, compared to pump fuel. I stuck with the 40's because it made more power on 34mm chokes instead of the 36mm I originally had installed.

The pump fuel engine was built the same way? Only difference was jetting and fuel type?

The engine was built specifically to take advantage of burning an alcohol based fuel. e85 (united petroleum) has a consistent octane ~108 ( I use one of those octane testers). From memory the comp ratio was ~ 13.8:1 maybe 14 something. The e85 also helps control detonation as well. E85 also burns slower than pump fuel, so the burn cycle lasts longer. Hope I got that last bit correct, im sure others will comment if I got it wrong. Basically more power to be had from e85 over pump fuel, but the trade off is that you use considerably more of it.

Starting to sound like a plan.
Only downside seems to be fuel economy. If I wanted that I would have a Prius.
Is the higher compresion going to be an issue with headgaskets etc ?

No, I don't think so. Use a quality gasket. Nismo etc. I got away with using a genuine gx gasket because the bore is only 78mm.
