It has been about 10 years since i was last on this site (used to be Dattofj20guy) and it is great to see it is still up and running.
My 1200 coupe got put outside years ago and someone jumped our side fence and onto the roof of my little Datto and from there the motivation just fell away.
its a shame that i let it get to the state it is after the work that had been put into it up until that stage.
I am now contemplating the future of the 1200 and logged back onto this site to try and get some motivation to get back into it or just scrap it and get on with life.
I really love the shape and style of the 1200 coupe and to tell you the truth you dont see many on the road these days so it would be a shame to scrap it and have one less around.
Motivation is what is required so come on club members....pump me up..lol

They're only going to get more and more scarce.. What made you buy one in the first place? And if you've made that much progress already, it would seem a waste to sell it.
I think you'll regret it haha. Or if you're set on selling it, I would finish it at least, personally.

Do it! Get that FJ running too!

Havent had an fj 1200 talked about on here in years. A very unique conversion these days... the forum needs to hear about something exciting and essentially a new project like this one.

Do it! roof can be made straight, paint can be redone and engine
should still be good and many parts are available for the FJ.

FJ is an goodie, built like the U20 engines highly over-engineered.
I would restore her in that colour as it was, it wont be halve the
effort that went into getting it to that stage of modified.

here is a 2.3L NA spitting out some good numbers and sounding great!

"Hey Guys..bad weather out there today so i thought its time to tell ya all about my project.
This has been a long term project and still has a bit to go.
I have a 1972 1200 coupe which was purchased about 8 years and imediately stripped.Every nut and bolt was removed as well as the sill panels and all glass. We have stripped the shell to bare metal and replaced the sills and all rust with new steel.the front wheel arch (floor section) was un-tacked and about an inch removed ,then re-welded back to give more clearance for biggger wheels. The trans tunnel was sectioned and approx 100 mm added down the middle then rewelded to allow for the bigger bellhousing and box.I have modified the firwall and strengthened it to accept the clutch master cyl and brake setup.I used a 120y power booster with an adaptor to fit the 180sx brake master cyl. I have addapted with flexi fittings on the top of master cyl (brake) and run off to remote resevoir. The clutch resevoir can be accesed between the intake runners. The crossmember has been strengtened and modified to suit the fj20 and we ended up using ford escort mounts. its a tight fit with still bonnet clearance and enough room to fit radiator and electric fan(mounted behind grille)The motor at this stage has been left alone with just the chain tenoiner modified(fj20 bit noisy in that department) and the turbo o/hauled. the dizzy proved a bit of a headache. I ended up with a e15 points dizzy to start of with which we had to machine and jin around with to get it to fit and work then after all that stress we found a e15 electronic one and went thru the whole process again.the throttlebody was modified and fitted with lpg venturi ring and century barrel valve, the converter was also modified to deliver more supply (dedicated lpg) . WE made up a new stainless pipe to run from turbo to throttlebody and fitted a blow of valve (my son made me do it)..the lpg cylinder was mounte between the wheel arches and the valve box faces towards the front of car (access is gained from inside car by dropping rear seat back down..We also made an entire rear parcel shelf out of steel tubing and mdf wood to fit the speakers..Ended up wit 2x12" woofers,6"mid woofers and 25mm dome tweeters mounted there. The rear side panels were reniforced ant fitted with 5"midrange and 8"woofers. the doors are fitted wit a 6' split system and the sun vissors hav 2 tweeters in each and re-apholstered. In front of the Gsa cylinder and mounted to the back of rear seat are the amps and electric crossover unit. 6 amplifiers of differing sizes and brands (all the amps ive accumulated over the years) are used with a total output of 2400 watts.and with the covers on and the seat up you would never know . The dash has been re apholstered with Gosh leather and the Gauge area modified with the light and wiper switch side by side with boost gauge under them and oil and temp on right side. the deck and parametric graphic with sub control in the middle, ans the glovebox modified wit the 8 rocker switches to turn fings on and off,and 3 digital multimeters, 1 for the two batteries ( mounted in battery boxes in the boot) and the other two for temp monotoring(switched for two probes on each meter) under them is a digital lambda meter and greddy turbo timer( again with glove box lid atached by velcro you cant see none of this) plenty more to tell and plenty of pics to post( waiting for an album) to be continued....."

don't give up the dream of finishing one and be proud to say - Even after all this time, I did it! I didn't give up I finished it through from start to finish, it got hard, lost motivation but in the end I persevered and I got it done. then you'll have something to pass down through the family, a heirloom as such.

Thanks guys...
I decided to scrap my other long term projects (probably never get around to them anyway...lol) and get the Datto back into the shed and strip it back and get back into it.
Like i said in my first post , the look of the 1200 couple still does it for me so i think it deserves another shot at it.
Thank you for your kind comments. they have all been greatly appreciated.
Best wishes to all and i will keep the forum up to speed when i get into it.
Cheers

Well finish that sucker and now many years later no doubt you can redo some things better with more knowledge,I note in post 6 the clutch setup, many years ago like back in 1990 I built a 1200 coupe with a Z18 turbo and in that one decided to use a formula Ford clutch master cylinder mounted on top of the Steering column support and the original cable hook on the standard clutch pedal lines up perfectly to operate the master cylinder which faced backwards.
Having built a BDG escort back in the mid eighties I borrowed from that experience and used an RS1800 spec remote reservior on the firewall to supply the Clutch master.

Such a change will mean the clutch master cylinder is no longer in the way of the inlet manifold, See with our help and encouragement it will live and become better than you could have ever imagined back in the day.

In many ways older cars are getting easier to source some repair parts than they were ten or twenty years ago and with more life experience you can and will do a even more awesome job of making an absolute rock star build of this great coupe and when all said and done they just don't make em like that anymore, Nothing Modern looks as good as a 1200 coupe.
