Hi all,
I know that cars are only worth how much someone is willing to pay.
But with little to no 1200 wagons being advertised, I cant really get a gauge of how to price my car.
I have a 1971, manual wagon, which is running all stock driveline that I am considering selling.

It has had the interior re-trimmed, with additional padding in the seats.
New carpets, sound deadening put through.
Some new rubbers, mostly doors.
New tyres.

Apparently it has had the motor freshened up, and the brakes rebuilt (drums all round).
I say apparently, as I purchased it like this. So can not be 100%, but has at least had a gasket kit put through it.

It has had a respray, its a little backyard but presents well (yes, they are heinous gold stripes )

Underneath of the car presents pretty well.
Car drives, stops, turns and gets a fair few looks.
I have had no issues with the car, but could do with a new battery or hook the current one up to a trickle charger.

Taillights are all in good condition too!

I am just sussing out what ballpark figure you datto heads think it may be worth

$3500? Looks good, striking color, nice interior

or put it on eBay and let the bidders decide the price

There are two Datsun wagons for sale on Carsales Australia. One for $3000 and one for $6500. So $3500 is in the ballpark. Maybe your wagon is worth more.

My personal opinion would be $5000.

That's what I'd be willing to go up to if I was in the market.

Although I'm also scared of cars with shiny new paint, it could be hiding layers of bog (not saying that's the case, I've just seen people get caught out by this).

The smartest thing anyone can do before they respray a car is to make sure there are Photo's of the original condition and stage by stage of any repairs.
Doing that means you have proof is was not just a dodgy repaint over a death trap rustbucket and will greatly aid getting a good price down the road if or when you may decide to sell it.

People will appreciate good paint if they know what is underneath is sound or properly repaired and the price will then be appropriate to how good it really is rather than what it looks like.

It does not take much effort and many forum members of different forums do exactly that in a build thread and it pays off when people can see the effort that went into making it a good one for then they will pay a fair price.

yep, agree on evidence of quality repair work aiding with the sale price.
unfortunately none to go with as it was all undertaken by the previous owner.

the wagon was a partial trade for another car, so good to get feedback on its percieved value, thanks chaps

without knowing whats under the paint and the front left guard rippled to look like an outback landscape when they could have done much better job Id say 5k is a fair asking price but ebay should sell for more providing you get some coffee buzzing kids wanting a jdm special.
