What is the availability of 63 gearboxes over here ?
I am assuming the box with the A series bell housing would be a rarity.
They came out for L series engines, right ?
How hard would it be to fit an A series bellhousing ?
Cheers
Bob

The 63 series does not have a removable bell housing. Intead, the front case half bolts up to the engine.

Most 63s were for J-engines or L-engines. You will need the A-engine version. Even if you got one for an L-engine you'd need the front half of the gearbox to swap out so it it will bolt up to an A-engine

Being a bit simplistic or optimistic an A series bellhousing could be cut and shut onto an L series 63

Yes that would work. For that matter you can use the S15 six-speed. It's the same length.

6-speed with A-series front case

Hey Bob,
Ive got a 63series dogleg in my Clubman7 and although its a fantastic shifting box, unless your driving it all the time the pattern can do your head in a bit ( I've heard this from other users as well ). Only plus is the reverse to 1st is lightning fast (It may be in your case, thats what your looking for when you do motorkana?)
Then again, I dont know if the L and J 63's were the normal pattern?
my 2 cents

J-series 63 were 4-speeds
L-series came in both 4-speed and 5-speed. All FS5W63 were dogleg shifters.

It's also called rally-shift pattern because the 2nd-3rd shift is quickly done

This is all getting a bit to hard for me.
I am trying to get 100kw to the back of the car and I am NOT going to put any non standard holes into the body.
Should probably try recoing a 60A so I know what I have got and see if this will last.

I would use a common inexpensive 60-series 4-speed to see how it holds up. 5-speed is only good for fuel economy anyways.

The J-series bolt pattern differs from the A-series. 520/521 came with only 3-speed or 4-speed. The first 63A 5-speed came out in 1973, it came in the PB210 behind the L14 engine
