Help!!!

I go through alternators on my 1200 like once every two years.

Was told to change the regulator as well.

It, however, has a harness with 6 wires where the wiring from the car has 4 attached to its harness. How do I attach them?

But last night spoke to a young man who is the only one I know in Orange County that has a 1200.

He has a alternator with its voltage regulator inside it.
He suggested I write to you.

So as an alternative, instead of installing the standard alternator and regulator what other alternator with its own regulator do you recommend I swap?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Datsun alternators usually last 10 years/150,000 miles. So something seems wrong in your situation

Yes, that's a normal 1200 voltage regulator

Before 1970, Datsun used a 4-wire alternator. Sounds like your 1200 has been modified sometime in the last 40 years!

Pre-1200 alternator

These are 25A or 30A units, and a 1200 uses more than that with heater and headlights

For a 1200, use a 35A alternator. Fix your wiring to use the standard 35A voltage regulator (six-wire regulator)

I have a 50A that an autosparkie friend found for me. Bolts straight on and works with the standard regulators. If people are interested I will take some pics and get a part number for you

Yes, the common B310 50A/60A unit fits late A12 engines (just needs a longer fan belt)

But it won't connect up to the 4-wire harness. Nor does it fit well with a 1970-1973 A12 engine, where it hits the radiator hose. The common 1980s 35A internally-regulated Nissan unit fits better

The internally-regulated alternator is a direct bolt-on. It comes from USA 1980 Datsun 720 pickup 35A or AUS Datsun N12 35A

Rockauto.com $38.99
Baxter's Australia
* 23100-B9802R Reman Alternator $260.33 from Nissan
* 23100-B9810 Mitsubishi A1T22971
* 23100-B9800/23100-B9801/23100-B9802/23100-B9805 Hitachi

This unit was also installed in JAPAN factory 1200s from 1982-1994

It requires a simple wiring change. For more information, see LR135
