i wanna run 12's, i want it to be faster than a stocker ca18det 1200 which is low 13's as far as i know

so with my setup which i think most of you have heard me crap on about enough now, who reckons i have no hope of making into the 12's?

without spending too much money, cause i still want a CA in the end and dont wanna blow more cash than i would need to do that

can anyone actually calculate the power required to run 12's in a 800kg car, theoretically of course

i dont really know my plans yet but basically it includes a healthy (only cam no other work) a-15 with injection and turbo, if i cant do it twin tubo then maybe single, at the moment

btw, anyone upgrading there CA turbo (t25 i think???) to a bigger and wanna sell the old one by any chance???

oh, and what the fastest a-series, if that seems reasnobly acheivable i may go to the effort of spending up to chase that record???

anyone interested in helping out with bits or time greatly appreciated

thanks for your opion, i hope some people tell me i have no hope cause that will inspire me, i just hope not everyone says i have no hope

i also hope it wont require race tyres, cause thats just not road car anymore

maybe im tripping cause i dont really have drag experience but hey let me know what you guys think

personally i reckon not much chance without spending quite a few dollars

If u wanna run 12's ur gonna want some serious power out of ur A15, with power comes $$$$$....balancing, tuning, timing, CAM, perfomance parts......etc etc, then comes driveline strengthing, traction problems, stonger diff, tyres. then u need back up moeny for Parts breaking, u gotta work down to 12's learning from mistakes and breaks, i reckon anyway.

no cheaps way for 12's i reckon, u can go NOS but even then u pretty much have the same issuse's

thats what i reckno anyway :P i would say the cheapist way to get 12s is CA

But if you cann prove me wrong RC, F$%K yeah go for it!!!!!

my big concern is the gearbox, i reckon the h190 will take it and a special centre with poor mans lsd (welded) for the drags to get both wheels laying down power

questions:
sunny gearbox (4spd) is strongest yes?
how much boost can a good condition a-15 take safely?

p.s. NOS not an option here either, not a big fan of it and the price will buy me the CA i want, but yeah it would help

Are you going to be running in a class that requires a minimum weight of 800kg? That sounds a bit heavy for a competition 1200 to me. If you plan to get serious, i suspect that you could do it a bit lighter than that.

yeah i could probably get it down, but not much, that i figure is realistic after adding a-15 turbo gear, diff ect ect, plus id like to keep it as road car as possible, although i can see myself getting carried away stripping it down, yes

for someone who normally writes novels, you only had one question, im shocked

Stock 1200, with turbo'ed A Series..into the 12s..will need 125-135kW at the wheel. I suspect you'll have closer to 85-90kW at the wheels with the turbo setup. So I don't expect you'll even break into the 13s.

My bet will be 14.45 @93mph.

Cheers,
Chris
ps. Prove me wrong. I'll congratulate you Any Datsun faster than 14.5s 1/4mi times is starting to get scarey. Actually any 1200 over 120mph is scarey too

Any car with a welded diff on the street is scarey at ANY speed. Scarey for all the other road users.
P.S., it's also illegal, & for good reason, & swaping diffs in & out every weekend or two stops being fun real quick.

Keep it for track use & you will find that you stand a MUCH better chance of getting the weight, & the times down.

For E.T.s approaching 12 sec's it might pay to start coming to grips with the term "Cubic Money"

im not sure what you mean by "stock 1200" but thanks for the figures

i think those figure 125-135 at flywheel is within reach without too much money/issues, but at the wheels it does sound a little more difficult

works out at 216hp at flywheel (25% transmission loss, i think is a reasnoble figure)

which should be obtainable, any ideas on the amount of boost required for this?

yeah i agree dodgeman, i dont like welded diffs at all, i dont plan to dedicate this thing to track, its sorta a once off dash for low times, rally is where ill race but just wanna have short tinker with drags, so yeah there wont be many diff centre changes and thats kinda why i dont wanna strip everything out

hmmmm 216hp at fly is high huh...

the more i think about it....

p.s. my road car is pretty good at 120mph+ i just havent had room to go much higher than that as i dont get on freeways much, so its sorta been a mad dash between traffic lights to achieve that, the only scary bit is when the needle reaches 0 again and you know it aint sposed to do that
