since im goin to be "doin up" the ute i was thinking bout dumped the exhaust b4 the bak diff ( my workmate does exhausts said he can do it for a few beers) question is how far back should i dump it? behind from wheels? infront of bak wheels? how much backpressure does the motor need ( its a s20de) and my current exhaust is 2.5 inch with a different manifold, he said he will make it interchangeable for me so i can run the half system or ful system, ne suggestions?

Your SR20 does not 'need' any back pressure at all. If it is in fact a turbo engine, then zero back pressure would be a good figure to shoot for.

In NSW, you must have the exhaust exiting behind the rearmost openable window, so exiting on the drivers side in front of the rear wheel will probably be just fine, as long as it meets the noise regulations. I think that they frown on side exit exhausts that eject gasses onto pedestrians when the vehicle is parked, so i think that the passenger side is a no no.

I think It's just a SR20DE nonturbo.

Why do you want to cut your exhaust ?.
If it's for the street you will still need to have some restriction so unless it an open exhaust there not much point that I can see to cutting it down.

No SR20DE's came from factory turbocharged. Thats why Nissan left the T off the end of SR20DE.
Nick what your friend has said sounds like a good idea. I would dump it infront of the diff. Since you plan to run nitrous, you want very little backpressure so you can get rid of all the spent gasses quickly - just like on a turbo setup.
The idea of your friend to also make the exhuast easily run a full system sounds perfect. That way when you arent using nitrous, the ute will still have good bottom end power for driving around town.

its NON TURBO as the engine name suggests sr20DE..
the dump exhaust is for the track only ( wakefield and WSID) and only when im running the NOS, just wanted to no how much backpressure i will need. llike i plan to dump it just under the passengers door :P will that give any negative issues? noise is no problem like i said its for track only

Oh golly gosh, i had no idea that no SR20DE has ever recieved a turbo instalation after it was installed in another car by a car enthusiast. I shall give myself an uppercut so that you can feel good about pointing out the obvious, that being, when built, the SR20DE was unturbo'd. I shjould have known better. [ouch]

Strangely, the original point that i made remains valid none the less. Isn't that odd?

I'l see if i can get some more pictures from Cooma while i am there during the next week or so.

Hmmm? Strange, where do you get this info that no one has ever turbocharged a SR20DE before?

Strangely, the point that i made remains valid none the less. Isn't that odd? Especially since Nick has pointed out that his engine is in fact a SR20DE

Not that I know what relevance that has to this thread.
All the same I cant wait. Will be good to see if anything at all has change within the last 3 and 1/2 weeks since I was down there getting parts for my 1200 wags.
I hope petrol prices get a bit cheaper for you in the coming weeks.

In QLD the exhaust must exit on the driver's side and atleast 20cm behind the last cabin opening.
