Hey all,
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place but I thought that I should register after reading the forums for so long. Also I watched 'the c word' on channel 31 in Melbourne. They were at the Calder drags interviewing many many men wearing capa pants with vl turbos and talking about cooler doses ... It made me feel dirty and cry. So after having been scarred by that I felt I should sign up and declare my love of all things Datsun

I've got a 200b which is just a test bed at the moment and my pride and joy, a 73 1200 coupe with the usual stanza strut upgrade, racing seats, new paint, partially redone interior, and am 80% though putting a L17 turbo in. By that it's an l16 block, bored 2mm with l18 crank, rods (although crank and rods nearly dead), l20b pistons and V91 L20 head (until I can get a u67). Running an unknown turbo (maybe starion?) through an old hks intake manifold, forklift exhaust manifold and a 32/36 weber (Am trying to put Camira efi on it but that will be a while).

Anyway, Just wanted to say g'day, oh, and I saw a bloke driving a red 1200 coupe around Geelong a few days ago, is he on the forum?

Cheers

Good work mate, Cappa pants and VL turbos make me want to cry too.

Well it's a bit close but seems fine so far . I'm kinda wondering how long it is until it goes bang though. It's being cleaned up and honed today so should have it back tonight (hopefully) and once I figure out how to post a pic I'll put one up .

I already had the parts lying around and thought it would be cool to have a l17 turbo , haven't seen many - but I have seen one which makes me think that hopefully it won't go bang, hehehe.

Anyway, I'll try and get a pic soon
EDIT: Just called the place, they've cleaned it but the boring/honing guy is backed up with work till Monday so I won't have a pic for about a week....

Yep, pretty much .
It came down to the fact that I had a l16 block lying around so thought I'd try to do a 1.8 project without the cost of a ca18det. Not as much power but it's an l series which must count for something. And yeah, it had a (somewhat bent) l18 crank in it so it is a l18 at heart, hehe. Now just need a new crank.... speaking of, don't suppose anyone has one in the Melbourne/Geelong area?

cant say ive seen many other 1200s in geelong, but a few of my mates say there is a black 1200 sedan with a big cooler that pops up every now and then in geelong, is that you?

Good on ya mate, couldn't find a crank not in an engine anywhere.
Good to see another Geelong bloke. No the black 1200 isn't me, I haven't seen it, seen a really nice black 1600 going Werrrr PSHHHH near Kmart a few times though. Mine stands out a fair bit. It's purple with gold trim, hehe. It's one of those colours that my bloke mates say "Why did you paint it that crap colour?!" but the ladies always tell me it's really cute and want to go for a drive... so it's staying It hasn't been out in Geelong yet though because it's been a shell up restore and hasn't made it to vicroads yet.

So I'm guessing you've got an L series in yours too? How'd you go with the engineers?
