Hi, i have looked into it in depth and have run TRD LSD setups in many different ways.

I do not like the conversion as you would need to machine down the bearing carriers so much to fit the Datsun bearing that there would be not enough metal left.

A better way is to get Datsun axel tubes welded to a sprinter diff centre housing. you would run a full TRD/Sprinter centre and gear ratios but still use H165 axels. getting the housing changed is also a easer job than modifying the centre.

I have a TRD LSD centre for sale to suit H165 axels for $600 or $700 with carrier and I think 4.3:1 ratio crown wheel/pinion (needs assembly). I even have an old sprinter housing i could chuck in for free.

On the subject but an alternative anyone know what a billet alloy housing would cost for a BW rear end on pintaras and skylines or even a hilux rear end?

i seem to remember from when i looked at this conversion that the H165 & sprinter use bearings with the same OD cup, therefore there is no need to machine the LSD to suit the Datsun bearings. just use sprinter carrier bearings.

from my recollection, the only machining was a couple mm on the crownwheel diameter to suit the Datsun crownwheel, and some sleeves needed to be made up to suit the datsun crownwheel bolts.

i never ended up doing the conversion (welding was cheaper....), but have been thinking about doing it again recently. just need to get hold of a sprinter diff center to confirm my measurements.

i have both diffs and the TRD bearings are much larger.

here is a pic of the TRD centre after is has been modified for datsun bearings, you can see how little metal is left after machining

hmmm, my mistake. looks like my memory is starting to fail me :)

ahh, so you end up machining the trd bearing journal down to datsun size. bugger, there goes all the added strength the toyota center offered.
