I'll try to supply as much information i can. Hopefully someone can give me some advice.

Nissan CA18DET running Microtech LT9c and x4 ignition pack
Took car for a spin around the block a few weeks ago, all good. Came out a week later and she just cranks and cranks with no barely a fire.
- On the laptop it's showing 0 RPM on cranking - odd??
- Pulled out CAS, ignition on spun CAS by hand and the injectors are firing.
- disconnected injectors to isolate them. Spun up again and can hear coil packs firing.
- removed my power connectors from both fuel relays in the boot as to not flood the motor. Spun again and can hear the fuel pump relays switching from the ecu trigger.
- disconnected all coil packs individually and used an inline spark tester between coil and plugs. All packs are showing excellent spark so they are getting signal from ECU and are in good condition.

Left injectors unplugged and pumps disconnected as well as coil wiring harness off. Replaced CAS back into the engine and i get NO RPM on cranking?? WTF.

I really don't get it. If the CAS is out of the motor its doing everything it should. As soon as i reinstall its not sending RPM signal to ECU??

any help or tips would be greatly appreciated..

Sounds like you found the problem, maybe the CAS isn't engaging with whatever it's supposed to connect to? A gear? I've never had a CA so I don't know.

Is drive off the cam, no gear involved

The CAS has two signals:
* RPM
* Timing
Open in new window

* The outer ring of 360 small holes is for RPM
* The inner ring of 4 or 5 larger holes is for Cam Angle Sensor, used for spark timing

Possibly there is a connector problem, where one of the 4 wires is not making a good connection at the CAS or at the ECU

or perhaps damage to the cam, or the CAS not engaging properly? Just ideas, hope you get it sorted, chasing electrical issues can be frustrating!

yes chasing electrical is quite #OOPS#ty but i'm the one who wired the entire car so at least i know where to lay the blame if it is electrical.

Has anyone heard of people repairing the CAS before? They are getting quite thin on the ground to find and are possibly in the same condition as the one your replacing..

I've had the cams out so no damage there to the exhaust key end. All my tests are quickly pointing to the CAS as being the culprit.

demacoz: yes please dude. please PM me your details and i'll give you a call. I only live about 5k from the Avenue. Would happily pick you up and drop you back after a quick test fit.

car is always on a charger keeper. Voltage only drops to 10ish while cranking. Even tried it with a jumper pack connected as i thought it was voltage as well.
