Revision as of 01:41, 3 April 2014
All A-series engines use the same Engine Bell-pattern. This means any rwd transmission, from B10 to B310, fits any A-series engine. No other Nissan engine shares this pattern. This means transmissions from Datsun 1600 or any other will not fit an A-series engine. Note that the only A-series RWD transmission to use an actual bellhousing is the automatic, all the manuals have the bellhousing built into the front half of the transmission case.

Overview
Image to scale: 88dpi Top to bottom: 338 mm center hole: 94 mm Blue holes: 8 mm Red holes: 8 mm Green holes: 9 mm Gray holes: 10 mm
Engine-to-transmission flange dimension 315 mm: distance between top and bottom bolts 300 mm: bolt circle diameter (11.8 inch)
E1/J
E1 (1200) and J-series have the same block bolt pattern. However, both engines use an intermediate transmission plate, so the transmission pattern may differ.
J-series and R-series engines both used F4W63, length unknown. Bell pattern differs from L-series. Are J and R compatible?
L-Series
L-series bells are the same six-cylinder to four-cylinder
L-series will interchange with Z-series, but L has considerably more slant. Best to use the correct one.
A-series has starter at about 8:00 O'Clock position
L-series has starter at about 9:00 O'Clock position
E/GA
E-series and GA-series bell patterns interchange. It is similar to the A-series and will bolt to an A12, but some of the bolts do NOT line up.
Z/VG/KA
These are all identical.
NOTE: L-series is same but slanted.
CA
CA16 uses a smaller clutch & gearbox. CA18 & CA20 use a factory adapter plate & larger transmission
SR is reportedly compatible with some minor differences.
GA is compatible with the CA bell (less adpater)
SR
R/H/U/SD
The SD engine bell is the same as all the R, H and U-series engine (R16, H16, U20). They share the same block.
QR
RB
RB lines up with some, but not all KA bolts. The top 3 bolts are in a different location. RB20 bellhousing on a KA block, the dowels line right up, and only 2 bolt holes need to be modified, one of them is extremely close.
