Small Bumpers
The 'one-piece' bumpers are all-chrome units. The fancier trims have rubber end-covers bolted over the metal.
Early Small Bumpers
Early type locates the number plate below the bumper. Early cars also have round headlights.
Number plate cutout * Wide for Australia, Holland, UK, etc. * Narrow for Japan, Malaysia, etc.
- H85 DX plain Sedan & Coupe. Also sedan Semi-DX
- H89 GL/GX with rubber end-covers. Also longer brackets with a sight-shield to fill the gap between body & bumper
H85 Early DX style - all metal
H89 Early GL style - all metal. Differs by having 4 more holes in order to bolt on the rubber end-covers

Late Small Bumpers
Late type locates the number plate above the bumper. Late cars are identified by square headlights (except Japan vans).

Luxe Bumpers
For 1980 the the GL/GX bumper was rationalized to use less expensive parts. Instead of using the all-metal bumper and adding rubber finishers to it, it changed to a shorter bumper bar with rubber end extensions.

This used specimen has a center sticker "ひろびろサニー" Spacious Sunny

This bumper has a sticker on the right "サニー宮城" (Sunny Miyagi)
SGL
Late SGL had a fat rubber overrider along the top half of the bumper bar
end caps are bolted on to the lightweight bar
SGL end caps are extra long
SGL rubber end caps have three sections, divided by two horizontal lines

The one-piece bumper is fitted with rubber end caps on GL & GX B310s.

Luxe type (GL/GX/GS/RSE). These long stays space the bumper out from the body. The bumper then needs a sight shield which bolts to the stay. Used with the one-piece H89 bumper (early years) and then with the shorter H856 bumper bar (later years).

Large Bumper
Large Bumper OPTION — safety bumpers meeting 5mph crash standard
Large bumpers use a channel-shaped stamping. The ends are all plastic (there is no metal underneath the plastic)
- Large bumpers have no cutout for number plate
- No number plate lamps in bumper, but use a side-lit plate
- No reverse lamps in bumper (except JDM California wagon)

North America
North America used same bumper for all models (Sedan, Wagon, Coupe same). It is a large 5 mph crash-resistant shock-absorbing type. Just like the Japan OPTION bumper, except there are no reverse lamps in the North American bumper.
