Using a special underhood sound deadener & insulation cleans up this part nicely.

This material has a nice fabric-like surface & is about 6mm or 1/4" thick. It comes as a roll of stickyback material & is guaranteed to fit our favorite Datsun models. It is made specially for this underbonnet application.
I got mine from Scots Old Auto Rubber & i think that it makes that underbonnet area much more tidy.

The blurb that comes with it says that it reduces engine noise & also reduces the temperature of the bonnet which in turn improves the life & appearance of the paint. Well, umm,,, OK, that works for me.

This is the original bonnet that was crunched in the accident, but it was the only rust free one that i had, so the Nice Car Doctor spent almost three days on it [$$$, damn] & now it's perfect. Oh yeah, i found a good one later. [double damn]

The bonnet latch mechanism & the prop rod will probably end up being chromed. Thats the worst part of a job like this. You fix up one thing & the part next to it looks crook, so you gotta do something about that too. Thats when the $$ mount up. Oh well, such is life.

Forget the chrome. It looks nice the way it is.

Do you notice any noise reduction? The talk here was the doing the car underbody (and especially the wheel wells) was the biggest improvement for noise reduction.

It might look OK in the picture, but these parts now stand out because everything else around them is so clean & shiney.

I don't know how well it works yet as the car is still in the car hospital & has no engine.
I still need to major overhaul the 5 speed, do a complete build on the engine,[still hope to find EFI] find the correct size for the diff spacer, then make one, & try to come up with a H150 LSD while i'm at it.
I still need to decide on wheel selection, & buy tyres. Oh mu god, the more i think, the longer the list gets.

Current projections are that it will be on the road by Christmas,................ of 2006, perhaps.

Dodgeman I have to agree with DD, I think chrome would be bad thing.

It will cheapen the look, if those clever litle Datsun engineers who put so much thought into the KB10 had thought chrome was needed it would be chrome allready.

You could paint the prop rod the same colour as the car (as they were originally) and get the latch regalvanised to look new.

I like your thinking on the H150 LSD , but they have been out of production for 20 years, where are you planning to find one?
