For those wanting even more style than ordinary cars, this factory 'Leather' top was just the ticket. A class act all the way.
My Australian "Capitol Motors' version of this top extends along the roof side panels right down to the bodyline, but does not cover the panel between the trunk lid & the rear glass as this one does.

It's no ordinary car, you know you want one.

It's a dent in the brochure.

Thats one of the things that im not the greatest fan of is vinyal roofs. I much rather the look of paint in its place but still keeping the two tone appearance. Some do look though. Plus they look tacky after a few years out in the weather when they start to crack and fade and/or let water in to begin the process of turning your beloved back to dust. Good condition and right colour they look tops!!

The little 1000 certainly had some options. When you get time or if you find a brochure Chis could you do the same for the younger cibbling the 1200.

Cheers

I have attempted to pass that job onto the 1200 guru,... ddgonzal. David seems to have more knowledge & more research material on 1200's than any ten of us put together.

See if you can come up with a catchy phrase to go with the pictures as thats the one thing that has him frustrated.

I chose to put the vinyl top back on for a number of reasons, including the fact that it had one originally, & because of its rarity. I really liked the classy look of mine & it was installed on a fully painted car, so there has been absolutely no rust in the roof panels whatsoever. The roof has now been resprayed & the car will not sit out in the weather [it never did] as it is now a toy & not a tool, so deterioration due to the elements is not really an issue.
Yeah, i know, another wad of cash spent without a good practical reason, but thats why it's a toy,... so i can play with it.

I got back late last night after being away for about three weeks. I have not seen the car in the last five weeks & i won't get to see it untill monday at the earliest [today is Sat.]
After several delays, i expect that the vinyl top specialis has traveled from Sydney [at my expense] to make a pattern He will then cut & make a top & return with an offsider to install it.
I spent a large sum of money & bought all of the rubbers that Scotts Old Auto rubber had on offer, including a Windscreen rubber, but it looks like i will need to buy two more windscreen rubbers [at $117 ea.] so that we can cut them up to make a rear window rubber.

I will see if there is any noticeable change on monday

I have bumped this picture up to show the difference between the factory top & my Capitol Motors one.
In a bizzarre twist, the yellow coupe uses the round mirror head, while the white one in the foreground, uses the correct coupe mirror heads. Cars & accessories shown in brochures often don't match up with what the parts book says is correct for diferent models.
Fender mounting was the default position in both Australia & Japan, [& probably other countries] but door mounting was an option. The position on the fender [top or side mounted] & the distance from the headlight seem to vary quite a lot on Aussie cars which suggests that they were dealer installed, & diferent workshops had diferent ideas about how, & where, they should be mounted.

What I have noticed is that aussie mirrors seem to be mounted on the side of the guard but japanese mirrors are mounted atop the guard.

The original mirrors on my coupe were mounted on the top of the fender, but the mirror arms laid over at a diferent angle to the ones normally seen in Australia. They ended up being much more horizontal than i have ever seen & looked unsightly.
For fender mounting, these should have been mounted on the opposite sides & on the side of the fender. These arms are the same as the ones on the new mirrors & lend themselves very nicely to door mounting as well.

They were designed for mounting on a near to vertical panel, but when it came to fitting the mirrors to my car back when it was new, someone at Capitol Motors must have had a liquid lunch that day. They looked bloody awfull.
