"chassis is also strengthened". Hmmm ... I guess a 73 is better ...

At the front, the sheet metal at the bumper stay attachment point is reinforced, as is the tension-rod bracket, which might be a weak part of the 1200, at least it broke a couple of times on my '72 1200 during off-roading.

5 Reinforcement-tension rod bracket Modified

8 Panel-apron modified (shape of and surface of bumper stay mounting notch)

The tech wiki fails to mention a 73 bumper with 73 mounts does not fit on a 71 or 72 body

What exactly didn't fit? Guys have used the 1973 bumpers on earlier 1200s, one guy said as long as you use the early stays, the 1973 bumper will bolt on the car

Are the bolt holes in a different location? Maybe if you slot the holes in the stay, the 1973 stays will fit other 1200s?

The 73 bumper and 73 bumper stays do not fit the mounting holes of the 71 coupe body. I was able to get one of the holes to fit but it required bending the front apron body panel.

I don't believe your guy is correct with regard to early stays fitting a 73 bumper. The holes in the bumper itself do not align with an early stay

Thanks for that information. I suspect the guy drilled new holes in the 1973 bumper, so that he could bolt it to the early stays
