This site should help explain what it is.

I don't understand what this part does. Looks more like it would be part of a locking spool rather than any sort of "limited" slip design.

Try this link:

Im muffed to see how the hell it works as an lsd when it looks like itll lock the gearing permanently. On the link it says differently.

sounds a bit to hard to beleave or maybe even a scam but every thing like the site and all looks ok like it looks to be not a scam i would be a bit nervouse before buying one i would get them to install it cus if you put it in wrong it sais they wont replace any of it and it will only be replaced if its been built wrong or it is really worn down really quick

There's a better picture at Mini Mania. It looks much more conventional in this picture, like the Phantom Grip is essentially a very simplified veresion of a clutch-type LSD. Here's a picture of the one in the photo (looks like there are two used in one diff): NissanPerformanceMag.com

DD it sounds like the real deal in the tests, I just cant get over its simple design.
I wonder how much for a h165 version???

Re: Turn any diff to LSD!
I've sent them an e-mail asking about them for the H165, perhaps if there is a few of us we could get a "bulk" purchase price.
- I think i can organise a few sales here in NZ, if they're as good as they say they are.
I want to talk to someone who has used one first - but going by what I've read the sound good.
Almost to good to be true, but worth investigating.

Search Google (not groups, but the Web). There are several complaints, as well as at least one that said "it works".

Ford diffs use a spring-loaded plate design, the biggest downside is that they wear out rather quickly.

well, the trick is finding someone who actually tried the Phantom Grip. One guy said it didn't work very well, but he talked to the company and they sent new springs and then it worked OK.

Re: Turn any diff to LSD!
An ex-1000 owner who used to race datsuns told me that a few people used a cheap method of using a couple of high tension springs and a bracket or two to do the same thing.
One of them said it worked well for him and he charged AU$200 to do it to anyones supplied diff centre. Maybe DD someone on your neck of the woods might do this as well apparantly is common practice thus why PG one is a higher developed one. However Im surprised a carbon composite isnt used to help with wear. Then again it would be too expensive.

p.s. 1200rc do you know of anyone who does this?? apparantly theres a guy in knox who does it. Last resort would b to ask Steve Newing at speedtechnology.

This is an old thread, Has anyone got 'new' news on the Phantom Grip?

I have purchased another version, Tayell?, from e bay (it was the right ratio) but am sceptical and about using it in a rally car.

All of the discussion is from pre 2006, the request for recent information still stands.
