You're right ddgonzal, they were two separate badges: "DATSUN" fender badge and "1000" from a broken tailgate badge.
I know this because I know the car... A very good friend of mine built it back in the late 90's and was originally white with HUGE red & blue scallops (here: http://datsun1200.com/uploads/newbb/7792_4a532f5384707.jpg), with the side windows replaced with sheet metal. The rear was black (I think??? We had many a cloud of haze in the back of that beast!) crushed velvet and, of course, rear seats always down. The driveline was the jewel in the crown though... A14 stroked to 1530, Option 1 5-speed and locked 4:37. Even with 5 of us in her, the "Wag" was the constant bane of Commodores and Falcon drivers, even the 5.0L V8s.
