This was caused by a lean out at the end of the straight at eastern creek.

Yeah, lean mix, detonation, obviously big time, adds up to having a pist'n broke.

Just the one?
What caused the lean out?

I have four pistons here from a turbo A14 engine where the engine builder, not having a clue, allowed timing advance on boost. Again, big time detonation. Result? Four pistons with cracks like yours. It doesn't take much to do it.

 Re: Low comp piston
Number 1 pistons was alright, due to it being close to the water inlet. 2 and 4 are cracked and the ring lands are bent and number 3 is the one with the hole through it.
The drinking straw outlet on the stock tank has been identified as the only real restriction to fuel supply, so i'm blaming that.
The engine that i'm building at work now will be a 1608cc A15. I'm going with 45mm efi hardware throttles with ford falcon injectors run by a haltech e6x, waste spark ignition, 2L surge tank, bosch 044 fuel pump and I have a decent foam filled fuel cell, so I doubt I'll encounter lean out again.

Damn mitsushiti pistons couldn't handle the stress of being inside a datto engine. Notice the big cracks in the two on the right.

Hmmm that situation looks familiar....

I did that one at OP GP super sprint a couple of years ago...
