hpc coated pistons A14force 2009/10/10 0:31 Tell a friend 4502 9 0.00 (0 votes)
Here are the mazda E5 pistons I'm using for my latest A15 build. I just got them back from high performance coatings limited www.hpcoatings.co.nz/pistons.htm . They have applied a thermal barrier coating to the crowns, and another kind of film to the skirts of the skirts. Using these pistons also reguired me to have the small ends of my conrods enlarged to take the 20mm mazda gudgeon pins. (I hope like hell this doesn't make them weaker!) |

Re: hpc coated pistons exactly, mazda gudgeon pin size is 20mm and ca18 rod is 20mm instead of the A14\A15 19mm one. You got a thread on this A14force?

Re: hpc coated pistons Ah I see what you mean. Are you using A12 rods because of the height of the piston?

Re: hpc coated pistons I just saw a bunch of questions on this pic, It cost around $200 to have both the thermal barrier on the crown, and the slipery stuff on the skirts. I didn't use the CA16de rods (I do have a set, and they are a bit lighter than the ca18 ones) becuase they are a floating pin, and I couldn't be bothered having the pistons machined to accept the clips needed when running a floating pin. Plus my A15 rods had already been balanced, and I couldn't justify the extra cost of having the CA rods balanced.
