We discussed this in a previous post. It's power assisted steering for people with miniscule forearms.

Not power-steering as such.

Very interesting though, and nobody has seen one.

This is from the Japan market parts book, right? I'm hearing that Bakkies never had this option.

Yeah, Japan parts book from the 70s. I've never found any part numbers associated with them, nor have I seen one of these units in real life.

I wouldn't expect any rough and tough South Africans would need this wimpy option

What makes you think we are rough and tough?

Well, the 1400 bakkie in south africa does'nt have anything like power steering or steering assist. I think it is to keep costs down. Almost all small businesses that do heavy duty work use these little work horses.
About 6 months ago I did paving at my driveway. The guy came with a 1400 bakkie.
Tomorrow(2005/11/09) I need to replace carpets in two rooms, the carpets guy will also come with a 1400 bakkie.

Really, if you can't drive a bakkie with 12" tyres due to it turning to difficult then you must not drive.
My GX had the original 12" rims and it was as light as a feather. It now has the 185/60 R13 mags on it and still feels the same.
Comparing it with modern cars that have power steering I would say it feels exactly the same.

OK, I found this page in the B120 factory parts catalog. The page is titled "Group Index - Chassis". It uses a generic diagram to show which page of the catalog to look at.

It turns out the Sunny Truck did not have a power-assist option - those parts in the diagram don't have a page number but are marked '*' . Also a couple pages earlier "Group Index - Engine" it shows an OHC engine which we all know 1200s never had. It's just a generic picture.

Now for the good news, there is now an aftermarket power steering option. See Power Steering.
