chuck the A15 in the back of the old Telstar and we're off the see the doctor.
I recently bought this engine and am unsure of its internal condition.
any suggestions for head work or other engine mods would be appreciated. money is an element and this engine will be used on street only..everyday.

 Re: HOORAY
she is being worked on at the moment in Orange. motor/head at diff places - work begun at LAST. getting new a15 pistons (factory flat not rounded :( ), porting, cam work, 10:1 comp hopefully, lightened flywheel & i hope to have it in the car by XMAS. ive also been recommended i run an oil radiator/cooler.

can anyone tell me anything about changing my current A12 single DCOE manifold, to fit the a15's oval ports etc. bolt patterns look like they will match up. everything else do to with engine swap should be ok.

im also looking to make a list of bits i can get from Repco to deck out this new engine - everything from rocker cover gasket to oil sump plug. i dont know what i need !!

so far i know i need...
dissy rotor & cap, exhaust / inlet manifold, clutch plate / pressure plate, oil & fuel filters, thermostat + gasket, oil & fuel pump gaskets, ummmm.
OH YEAH and a 5 speed would be very good too. plz sell me one someone.

Yes, trade the round-port manifold for an oval port manifold. One question is can you grind out the round-port manifold to an oval shape to match the head? Even if you could, you end up with a lower-flowing manifold. The A15 likes to breath, don't saddle it with round-port runners (unless you plan on keeping the engine below 4,000 rpm).

At least you have found a productive use for a Telstar.
The heads are good & i believe that you will need to do little more than a port match, & to blend the port into the valve seats to get quite spirited performance from this engine.
A nice "light sports" grind on the camshaft will also be money well spent.

I had that problem years ago when I went from an A12 to an A14 in my old white coupe, but I had a twin SU manifold. Couldn't find an oval port twin SU manifold anywhere! So I cut and shut the SU manifold and a stock manifold.

I did all the nutting it out, measuring and cutting. Got a Fabrication shop to weld it up (using my cyl head as a jig) for $40 I think it was, and then I cleaned up the internal mismatches at home with an angle grinder.

 let the hax0ring begin
ive ended up just going for twin webers with a new manifold.

work on my engine is going well - ive just ordered some items for it too - i cant WAIT to put this A15 in my car..

all brand new from repco
pistons + .060
all new bearings - main, b/e, camshaft
gasket kit
timing chain kit
valves and guides
fuel / water pump
oil cooler kit + sandwich plate
new clutch

thanks Mike for hooking me Up with cheap goods.

does any1 have an idea of engine displacement with + .060 pistons ? ive been told by a datto fan i should expect close to 1600? this right ?

your gonna be very happy with this motor, your 1200 will get up and boogey just nice

a15's are great with minimal work, twin webbers will set it off just nicely i think
