Hi L18_B110,
I realise that you are not the seller, but is this engine in Brisbane?

Jempson, yep the engine is in Brisbane. if you're interested I know someone who can arrange freight at slightly better than normal rates.

I'm the contact as Craig doesn't have internet access now. I built the engine, and have done some of the tuning on it so I can answer any questions you guys have, and will give Craigs number to anyone interested - just PM me.

Hey,

What sort of figures has this engine produced on the dyno?

Cheers

 Re: turbo engine for sale
it hasn't been on a dyno or down the quarter unfortunately.

It was running pretty hard on just a hint over 0.5 bar (approx 8psi), and has alot of potential left in it. I was pretty impressed when I drove it. Not just for the power it had, but for the smooth way it developed it, and its drivebility.

And Craig did some pretty respectable times in the QLD Challenge rally (he beat me on 2 stages ) , and that was the car's first outing with pretty horrible suspension settings.

Thats a shame! would've been good to see it run properly, what engine is he going to stick in it now?
I know someone who has been bugging me to make up a manifold for a turbo system but unfortunatly he is a tight ass and he would'nt spend that much.

you'd be lucky even to get these manifolds made for the price he's asking. And it comes with a freshly built, balanced motor attached.
If I had some money at the moment (rates and rego wiped my bank account out) it would never have got advertised...

 Re: turbo engine SOLD
its sold guys.

I couldn't bear to see it go after all, and did a deal with Craig to swap the turbo A12 for my L18. pretty good salesman hey? I managed to convince myself to buy it...

Now I've got to try and get the thing ready for the Bathurst Speed Weekend!

 Re: turbo engine SOLD
Could you please post some close ups of the manifolds as I'm having trouble stopping my steampipe exhaust manifold from cracking every 4-6 months. I built it around 4-5 yrs ago so can't complain but I'm interested in new designs to work with. Cheers and enjoy the boost!!

 Re: turbo engine SOLD
ha - it's a long story!

Once upon a time, before we built this setup for Craig, I bought another turbo setup off this site from DVLDAT (pic below). It had even better manifolds, a T3 turbo, external wastegate and all the bells and whistles (no, not a blow off valve ).

Then another opportunity came up to use a big bhp L18 that belonged to another friend, and I never got around to using the turbo gear, so I sold it to a mate who was going to fit it to his wife's 1200 ute! Thankfully he never got around to fitting it up either - too concerned about lag on the wife's daily driver.

So, after I swapped my L18 for Craig's turbo setup pictured above, I talked to the other guy about swapping turbo setups, as Craig's T25 worked well on the street, and the T3 with external gate was probably more suited to my needs. He agreed, so I'm back to where I was about 18months ago.

But I only recently started seriously looking at building an engine for it. I'll probably use the A14 I've got (which is stamped as an A12 :lol) with E15T pistons - hoping they are a little stronger than the NA ones? They'll drop CR to 7.85:1 with my closed chamber A14 head, which is a little lower than I wanted to go, but like I said, I'm hoping they'll cop a bit more punishment. I've seen A12 and A14 pistons crack skirts and headlands under boost...

The engine is probably a couple of months away yet - I'm sidetracked at the moment with my HR30 Skyline, which I'm currently painting (yep this weekend) like this:

I painted the red part yesterday, and this afternoon the black part will be done, and it might even get it's clear coats at the same time... maybe...

I bet you're sorry you asked now!

 Re: turbo engine SOLD
Well its nice to hear that you will be using an even better turbo setup and yes the manifold on that pic looks very enviable to many of us.
It seems youre on the right track even after the purchase of the skyline, I really like this model especially with the fj engine.
As for me after seen josh in Okinawa im hesitant in going 13b rotary because I love keeping the original engine in the 1000. Ive bought and sold 2 x fiat tcs, 1 x 12a rotors, 1x alfa tc, 1 x suzuki g13b and 2 x renault gordinis before settling on the 13b.
The 13b was chosen on the power/budget ratio.
However since seeing these little turbo setups It makes me wonder the possibilities of the a series compared to renault 5s similar pushrod engine. The renault 1.4 pushrod with hemi crossflow achieved over 400hp and even now the Poms are doing the same to road car versions of this engine.
Not that I want 400hp but 3 times the standard torque along with 180hp and driveability sounds very enticing.
Is your a12 (a14 capacity) similar to Dodgemans setup with the a14 cranck?
I bet you're sorry now you replied!

 Re: turbo engine SOLD
mine's just a garden variety A14 block that someone stamped as an A12 somewhere along the way! Ex-rally engine maybe

I'll be aiming for a genuine 200bhp out of the turbo engine. I need to at least get the same power the borrowed L18 had last year! But I think I've decided to play with the Skyline this year. At least that's the plan this week...

My R30 Skyline has the L20ET engine - 6cyl 2000cc L series with EFI and a turbo of course. I have a 2.4 engine under the bench which will eventually find its way into the engine bay, then the usual big turbo, intercooler, and zorst mods and a home port job on the cyl head - but that's all down the track... I know the FJ20 turbo was the sporty RS model, but I still don't think it's right to have a 4cyl in a Skyline! I have a mate who builds awesome L6 Datsun engines, and seeing the kind of power he gets from them naturally aspirated thee just has to be potential in them turbocharged!
