183hp at the rear wheels with 850lb of torque, at 6,000rpm. that's with a 36mm restrictor in place on the turbo.

We are chasing 250hp...so a few changes will be made...step 1 is to go back to standard camshafts....that will happen mid April.

Them restrictors are a pain in the bum. Its hard to get good power with them. I couldnt run any higher than 12psi without surging
Im presuming you have hi lift cams fitted to the FJ. this would make things even harder as they make power a lot higher in the revs. I wouldnt be suprised if you made a lot more power at a lot lower revs with stocko cams!! 250rwhp should be acheivable.
I was suprissed how much gain can be made with playing with cam timing. Without restrictor the Ca made 135rwkw or around 180hp with stock boost - 8psi With restrictor it made around the same HP with 12psi.

The restrictor certainly is a pain, but it's just something we have to live with. Your thoughts are the same as mine...we are aiming to get the car on boost much earlier (2,500rpm) that willgive us much more tim (until 6,000rpm) to build up more power.

The dyno graph from the run we just had was still climbing at a very good rate, then it hit the restrictor wall at just over 6,000rpm.

I can only imagine what kind of power we could have made. Oh well....I'll hang on to those cams for a street car one day

It's looking damn fine!
Them restrictors are a real nuisance. My brother has done a bit of this kind of work, he's big on getting the internal shape of the restrictor correct, and properly matched to the turbine inlet... Reckons it makes a huge difference..

You could always go N/A....

 Re: Back from the Dyno
The guy who tuned the car has had heaps of experience tuning cars with restrictors. He has tried many differnt types/designs of restrictors and the interesting thing to note was that the peak horsepower didn't change much between them.....even a flat piece of plate with a hole in it.

The changes happened more in the mid range, essentially the power curve changed in the middle. With a restrictor that is well designed, it allowed more mid range power and torque, and then held that power longer....rather than being a peaky "light switch" effect.

I never thought you could get a decent race car appearence out of a sunny. I always pictured them as a grandma car but yours definiately looks the part. It has a nice aggressive stance that brings out the racecar within.

Thanks Craig.....I am planning on testing at OP on either the 3rd or 4th of March...you should come out too.

I am trying to get Justin to come out as well.....should be a good comparison.

 Re: Back from the Dyno
For private practise at OP you need to have a CAMS licence....normally a C3 or above.

It's not a club day, just private practise....that way you can go out and do as many laps as you like. Normally not many cars there either, so you pretty much get the track to yourself.
