One of the best engines for an old poxy mx5 to kill many on the track however not been done yet?!?
Anyway 300K in that box thats fearless and stupid. But the fun factor would be better than a Mclaren.
I also read somewhere that this Mazda engine is a copy of the Fj20.
Here in Oz a heavy 4 door gemini with an fj20t is hitting 8s as well but smaller capacity.
The car has no wing big tubs and is street driven and looks street unlike this thing.
Go the old heavy FJ is still king. Even in an ugly isuzu holden gemini.

Holy Sh|t.....
Thats awsome, jesus that thing would be loud with the dump pipe just near the windscreen!!
Thats looking like an FJ20 yes? The tappet cover is different from others or maybe its a later version of the engine plus the plenum is down lower than the others.....Or is it a different engine?

That has had just slight tunnel mods by the look of things....

Whats this thing run?

Dave

 Re: Louis Lima
I'd be tipping that it's a Mazda engine of the 1.8 litre variety...

 Re: Louis Lima
yeh it's a mazda 2l

it runs the 1/4 mile in 8.7 secs @250km/h

and the 1km sprint in 21.9secs @291km/h

not bad for a ute

Why are these Mazda engines so popular for turboing in ZA? Are they fwd converted to rwd? or what car do they come out of?

err, I hope it's Ms. H no Mr. H?

Mazda engines are used because they can handle quite alot of boost and performance parts are relatively inexpensive here in South Africa for them.

I know someone here where I live who has a Toyota Corrola car(those boxy one's of the 80's) It was a nice and clean car the last time I saw it. Also with a 2l turboed Mazda engine.
Without Nitrous activated it gave 510hp at the wheels on avgas. I remember one time at a drag meeting looking at it from the back when it took off from the line. It had so much torque that when he shifted to second the body will lean to the right due to the torque. When he shifted to third it will lift again and when he is in third putting his foot down it will lean again.

if it had so much torque in a fwd wouldnt the body move front to back not side to side because of the way the engine is facing? maybe it was just torque steering when he booted it ???

having always driven around in a rwd car, I jumped into a fwd car once, and when the driver booted it i remember noticing the front end coming up. If you look at these cars doing a burnout, they often seem to jump up. I think your right. If ya set it up right, it might get ya an extra 0.1 of a second...

I am with you Andrew, at that speed I would rather be in a car that had been designed for it (like a Maclaren), rather than an early seventies subcompact economy car.
However having said that, you would only be at that peak speed for a second or two.
It would be one hell of a ride.

kegs

Those corrolas were rear wheel drive. I think it did it because he did not have firmer suspention mods at the back.Meaning the suspention sagged under torque on the one side.

No, its a Mazda 2.0l engine fitted with a different crank that pushes the displacement up to a 2.4l without changing the piston size... Louis Lima knows his stuff! Not sure what crank he used though.
